Eggs would be just as gross. Also there would be people who would mix up peoples' eggs in hospitals or step on other peoples' eggs. So much vulnerability. Really the best solution is that we would live forever and not have to reproduce.

This is just silly, you could write the parents' name on the egg with a black sharpie.

People mix up babies in hospitals and step on them all the time.

At least with eggs I don't have to worry about having a corpse inside of me.

I googled stone baby. Not as bad as I had imagined.

edit: If you google for images of stone baby you'd see a harlequin baby too, now THAT is something you shouldn't google for.

When I read the topic title, I assumed it meant the woman had died when she was 40, and for some reason they checked her body after all this time and found the fetus there.

The woman was still alive and had it inside of her for 40 years though? Now that was unexpected.

Why does the body turn it into stone to protect it?

its not to protect the baby, its to protect the mother.
if the dead embryo is to big or the mother is to weak to reabsorb it,
its coated by calcium so the dead tissue (still inside the mother) wont cause infection, necrosis and so on.

i think its rather fascinating that our body's are capabel of something like that.
thx for this interesting thread :)
