my 4k copies of last action hero and the sting should be showing up today.

I'm getting sick of companies announcing steelbooks first and then quietly mentioning regular editions later.

Are these 'restorations from original camera negatives' actually true or bullshit?

The reason I ask is our Cintel and Arri scanners have sat pretty idle for a couple of years now. I would have thought they would be going overtime with all these restorations.

I'm in the same boat. It already looks great on the blu ray I own but this movie is amazing.
I’m finding that I really enjoy ‘older’ animation flix in UHD. I would love to check out Akira but haven’t been able to pull the trigger due to price and the fact that I love the manga far more than the movie... still enjoy the movie though.

I’d stab someone for a quality transfer of Futurama 😍

I want this but it’s just too expensive for me considering I own them all already on blu ray.

Look at the Infinity War box set to have something to hurt your wallet with… but then some of the earlier movies can only be found in UHD Blu-Ray if you get that box set for now. SW wise it is improved over the Blu-Ray transfer, but not sure if it was really worth the jump (like it was for Matrix movies and LotR… the boxset case is disappointing compared to the big book like thing they gave for the LotR Extended edition… the video and audio quality is great, but it feels like UHD packaging is reflecting the era where UHD Blu-Ray is not seen yet as a worthy collector/enthusiast item but something you gotta do…).

On these movies it all depends on the restoration process and the HDR. Even HDR10, so not dynamic like DV (PS5 playback), movies like GhostBusters I in UHD Blu-Ray come alive especially thanks to the HDR presentation and the very high average bitrate ensures you do not get weird artifacts especially in high contrast scenes.

Look at movie reviews here to make up your mind: https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/32338/ghostbusters4k.html

This website does very very good reviews (a 3+ star from the video quality wise is not easily given ;)).

Holy fuck the Star Wars: A New Hope 4k looks amazing. Was not expecting a transfer so good.

It's crazy. This is not the ANH I know.
Did you have the previous remastered edition in BD or DVD or are you comparing it with earlier transfers? I saw a huge huge step up with the original remaster (where they went frame by frame and restored the original trilogy), but not as much in the Blu-Ray edition and while I got the 4K UHD Blu-Ray boxset I have not taken a look at ANH yet. This trusty C9 should still enjoy it ;).

Oh yeah, watched it on my bro's CX. Fucking shockingly pretty looking. Blows your mind further that the movie's from 1977.

I had the bluray collection of all 6 movies prior.

4k movies are just such a great experience. I often get the feeling like I'm watching the movie for the first time again. It's just the definitive way to watch a movie.

Watched District 9 and it also looked incredible.

So many more that we've bought and haven't got to yet.

Can not recommend enough an LG CX TV to anyone. Easily the best TV I've ever seen and basically what I've been dreaming for for like 15 years. Always wanted a TV with perfect blacks and here it is. Need to cop me one of my own soon.

It is a great TV, I would wait for next year’s update for the TV and the AVR as they finally fix VRR and all other kinks of this aweful aweful HDMI 2.1 rollout…. But that is not a short wait if you do not want to pay premium prices at launch.

Does Disney movie Club operate in Europe? I used their discounts to get the original films for way less than buying them normally. Of course I had I 0 interest in the sequels so im not sure if still comes out to as a big a discount if you get all 9.

The 4K versions of Star Wars are a huge improvement over the Blu-Rays. The color timing is almost exactly perfect to how they're supposed to look (the Blu-Rays were completely messed up, and the problems began with the DVDs). They also FINALLY fixed the sound mix, with the trumpets in the soundtrack when the X-Wings begin the attack run on the Death Star are at last restored.

Still you can probably find the movies individually on UHD cheaper than the boxed set.

As for Dune, it WILL NOT include the Extended Cut. Arrow says that's been withdrawn from distribution world-wide. The would've included it if they could.

Nah this is the ANH I knew before the DVDs. This is how it's supposed to look.

The only real issue is they are super heavy on the DNR. It's not as noticeable with Empire but ANH and Jedi can look pretty rough in spots. Not a deal breaker by any stretch but unfortunate nonetheless.

They also completely butchered the brightness level in AOTC on the physical disc but nobody cares about that but me.

Are you from the future? No way your VHS or laserdisc copies looked better.

They had less detail and lower resolution, but the color timing on the 4K versions is much closer to the theatrical prints and the LD transfers (all of the VHS releases were derived from the LDs). Lowry Digital screwed it up with the DVDs in the early 2000s when the fad was to go for a more digital look. The Blu-Rays and Digital HD came from the work Lowry did on the DVDs, so the color continued to be messed up there. When they did the 4K transfers, Lucasfilm/Disney handled it themselves and the results are almost perfect.

Disney has been overseeing all of their own 4K transfers for archival purposes. They produced a PERFECT 4K version of Song of the South (which will never be released) that even digitally fixed the camera judder. One great thing about Disney+ is that they're putting all of the 4K stuff there even without a disc release, such as the 4K versions of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the POTC trilogy, which are upgrades from the BD versions.

Ugh I hated how the blurays were stored in Star Wars 4k set so hard to take them out, gave it to my brother and just bought the individual sets when they were on sale.

Scream Factory released the 1976 remake of King Kong on Blu-Ray in the US:
King-Kong-1976.jpg

It includes the 3 hour TV version for the first time. It was only shown on TV few times in the late 70s. I hope this gets released in Europe too.

Wonderful, Indiana Jones UHD releases fixed the messy highlights. Slight increase in detail too thanks to a very lively and textured (grainy in a good way) print.

Watching Raiders right now. Absolutely perfect. And fuck the Atmos is amazing.

My preorder from Target is on back order. "lollipop_disappointed:

I’m following this thread. I’ve bought probably 50 4K movies since upgrading to 4K in March. Gaming in 4K is fine, but watching movies is breathtaking.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Got my X-Men 4K Steel Monday
20210605_2039021oko1.jpg
also got The Dark Knight Trilogy 4k boxset
Slapped the 4k discs in my Begins/Dark Knight/Rises Steels and pop them in the boxset and discarded the plastic cases
Nice.

Neighbours from Hell
I got the same steelbook Indiana Jones box set. Shipped in a bubble mailer though and the outside box is flimsy. I haven’t seen these movies in year and only saw this once so it’ll be like me seeing them all over again.

Man, the Indiana Jones standard set is so flimsy and cheap. Gonna have to just put the discs in jewel cases and just never open it.
