Do you mean in account creation? You put in a name and it tells you if it's available. If not, it recommends similar names that are.

What's the whole appeal behind Gmail? You get 1 gig of space (what are you going to do with it all?) and it has the Google name on it. Otherwise, what's the point?

The approach to organising mail is a hell of a lot better than any other webmail system I've seen: labels rather than folders, which is a lot more flexible. The interface is extremely slick, especially the conversation view, which gives you quick and easy access to all mails in a particular conversation.

It's just webmail done right, for the first time.
