I bet most GOP voters refuse to believe or don't understand structural racism. They think the best candidates are always chosen unless there are regulations like Affirmative Action.
I bet they also refuse to believe that police have any tendency to be worst against black people, which is why digging up the past of victims of police brutality is so effective.
So in short, they refuse to believe the all the bad things black people have to endure, but see things like Affirmative Action and reason they have it pretty good.
Agreed. I also think that white republicans are tired of hearing about black lives so they reject the notions more intensely than other groups. Black people "had their time" in the 60s and white people suffered trying to make up for racism and ancestors so they are done with that. Further, there has been other data that these voters also think negatively of black people in general so they think there is some validity in marginalizing blacks
If you are it white neighborhoods in some of these rural areas and states you may not see any black people ever. So all you get as info is media portrayal and local conversation. Since it's all negative, you probably WILL think that cops killing a black person is nothing lost in the grand scheme of things since they cause so many problems anyway. Black lives matter as true of a cause may have been, ignited extra fury and annoyance about this and helped motivate this kind of trump movement
I can understand this line of thought in low educated folk in segregated areas with low population and diversity. The saddest part is when supposedly intelligent people that enter office, or report the news, or become president, exploit these groups and pretend to not know the racism and hate they are harboring to push their own agendas ahead. But that's what happens when you play to win
