9070 XT availability (or lack thereof)

Have seen a ton of posts leading up to today, expecting availability not to be an issue.

This morning stuff did stay in stock for a couple minutes... for the $200+ upcharged stuff, but now everything is going out of stock within seconds.

If you were hoping to get something, but haven't yet, good luck.

For PC gamers any console is not a real alternative. Consoles are super limited vs. PC ecosystem.

My advice: wait.

Market was crazy in covid/crypto boom but after xx months stocks were normal and prices reached MSRPs.
There are some pc players who probably just play game as is I believe

MLID was reporting last week that stock was "3-10 times the 5080 launch". Well, it sounded like the 5080 had less than 2000 units total, so this should be no surprise.

We're not going to see reasonably price gaming cards for months. Either get in line at the Newegg shuffle, pay scalper prices, or pretend these cards don't exist for 6 months. Complaining about it daily won't do any good.

Perhaps. Their loss then :p people are easily brainwashed by influencers. Even my 10yo nephew was repeating the same pro hate points few months back he heard on the internet.

I don't think it's an influencer thing. It just doesn't have mass market appeal in any way.

I think it's a good value fwiw.

Yeah with AMD not able to meet demand with its supply - this entire generation looks to be wasted. MAYBE the 6000 and 10000 series will be better but somehow I doubt it because Jensen and Jensen - $50-$100:

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Micro-center in Miami has tons of of them but only 1 left at the $599 rest are $750-$830. At least they have well over 50 of them in stock. Fighting urge to go build a new pc but really don’t got a place for it anymore…

I will never again in my entire life attempt to get a GPU on launch.. I will wait until midway through the generation and pick it up for well below original MSRP.

Already have it and it solves nothing if I’m looking for a graphics card, until I can install it in my PC

He's not wrong. If it plays Sony's first party games then it's pretty much the same thing but better in pretty much every way....except for the price.

But I look at it like this

If I wanted to buy both consoles to play all the games:

PS5 Pro $700
Xbox Series X $350 - $500
so $1050-$1200

plus you can emulate retro consoles which, to me at least, is an invaluable feature.
And then there's all the other functionality that comes with a nice pc. Video Editing, Streaming, not having to pay for online play. Music production, Blender animation, production. And in the end, you can upgrade particular parts instead of buying a whole other console that will likely be in the $600-700 range next gen. All that with the likelyhood that next gen consoles will still not beat out pc in performance or features. So yea, get in for $2000 or so and pray that competition particularly in the GPU space becomes more heated. The 9070XT is a great step in the right direction. Can't blame AMD for the greed of AIB partners and retailers looking to take advantage of the hype.

Availability was not an issue in canada, can still get some at msrp as of now. First good gpu/console launch since ps5/rtx 30x0.

Reverse groomer.
I just never thought that scalpers would go after AMD cards.

Geforce makes sense because they're better for mining and AI and the techbros love that stuff so they go ham. But Radeon is a purely gaming venture. We were supposed to be protected from the scalpers redbros. AMD had like 4 months of supply and those motherfuckers still rinsed it all out. What the fuck

I do see a few 9070 non xts at MSRP on Microcenter.
I am now actually thinking of settling down with it, if I can get one @ MSRP.... so will try to get off a bit early & drive there after work and see if they still have them. About half an hour drive, but also I'm in NYC, so will have to get to my car at home first (which takes another hour and half)

Feeling a bit defeated as it looks like I'm settling down on a product that I wasn't planning to get. Then again, image sharpening 2 looks interesting and only works with 9000 series.... and I'll be playing it on old 4k/60hz OLED TV. I do hope I can achieve the titles I want with FSR4 + not-so-ultra options and minimum RT.

It would be worse if all the MSRP vanilla 9070s are all gone by the time I get there. LOL...

edit: By the time I got off bus and got on my car - checked the stock level on my phone to see if they have any. None left. Came home. Not in a great hurry - will just have to wait. iGPU will do for now. :(

Yeah availability is extremely good relative to nvidia, but part of the reason Radeon is selling out is also because nvidia availability is SO MISERABLY BAD. Nobody could’ve predicted nvidia would fumble this so badly, and it takes months to make these cards and get them to shelves. It’s not like AMD has a crystal ball that told them nvidia would screw up their launch like this.

Been trying to help my friend upgrade his 3070 to either a 5080 or a 9070XT at MSRP but that's a pipe dream right now. Paying +250$ is tragic.

We'll just move forward with a motherboard/CPU upgrade at this point.

GPU market is dumpster fire.

I was extremely lucky to get my hands on a 4080FE from BB when I did.
