I never listened to it before but after looking through their play list I can say I'm very interested. I'll definitly give them a chance once they get back on the air.

Why did it go away in the first place?

In a nutshell, the owners wanted to do something different with the rest of their lives and sold the 97.7 frequency, but kept the handle and slogan (97X The Future of Rock and Roll). They had plans just move everything to the webcast after handing over the FM, but webcasting costs reared their ugly head and forced them to shut down (and give probably the most gutwrenching on air goodbye I've ever heard from a station's airstaff).

But now some unknown donors have come forward and pretty much said, "How much?"
Full details are available here.

no, where as in where did they broadcast from

97X WOXY Dayton Cincinnatti Oxford and worldwide at woxy dot com, we are the future of rock and roll

I was a BIG fan. One of the better things an ex-girlfriend turned me on to.

Shoplifter, did you get a chance to listen to the A-X countdown? Some great songs over those days. It'll be nice to hear them once again. And new ones too, I guess.

Sure did, what was great about 97x was that even though they played a lot of new stuff it was almost 50/50 with older stuff like The Replacements, The Pixies and other goodies.

I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl over this. We have CD101 here in Columbus, and while I still listen, it was WAY better in the early 90's. These days there's too much crossover in their playlists.

WHO DEY!?
I work in Oxford and went to school there. I love this news. It is in fact the best station ever.

Doesn't anyone remember Rainman? "BAM! The future of rock n' roll!"

boo Miami sucks

OU reprazent :p

97x still rules though.

I grew up on 97X as well (10+ years while I lived in Cincy). LOVED it. To this day, I can't find anything close to it's calibur in LA. K-Rock? Purleeze. Not even close. Closest is the KCRW, when it plays modern rock which is like 3 hours out of 24.
