double jump

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".
funny enough nostalgia got me and I watched it on Netflix a few days ago.
Still love it but during my recent viewing I was painfully aware of how awful some of the dialog and acting was.

Hopefully they don't just crap a sequel out after all this time.
They need to nail the tone and visuals of the original for it to work for me.

Finally some new material for Ed Boon.
FATALITY

A lot of th straight up racist stuff in the original is at least a little excusable since it was the 80s... no way could/should they do something similar now
was thinking of this too

edit: turns out it's just a rumor with no source

I don't think it's a movie that can work nowadays. It's a fun cheesy comedy action movie, where the decade in which is was made and set is extremely important to its appeal-that can be difficult or impossible to replicate.

How would this even work?

EXT. Suburb

Asian man in a business suit reaches out and knocks on the door of a small home.

Door opens.

Asian Man: Mr. Burton

Reverse shot, Jack Burton standing just inside the door. Gracie Law is visible in the background.

Jack: Who's asking?

Cut to:

Shots of a tall, ornately-dressed silhouette walking through a hellish, scorched landscape.

VO Asian Man: Lo Pan has returned, Mr. Burton. My grandfather always spoke highly of you, and we believe you may be the only one capable of stopping him.

A pair of spindly, claw-like hands close around a mysterious tome, VO Lo Pan: laughing cackle.

Asian Man: With this new power in his grasp, Lo Pan will be unstoppable. You have defeated him before.

VO Jack: I'm just one guy.

VO: You will not be alone, Mr Burton. There is another who has faced this power before.

[Sound FX: Pump-action shotgun cycling]

VO: Name's Ash. Housewares.

Would say leave the classic alone, but yeah, most of the people involved with the first one should do this one, if they are still around and still in movie making.

Get Kurt Russell back as Jack Burton, get Del Toro to direct(I don't trust Carpenter anymore). Get some Retrowave musician to write the music, shift theme from China to Japanese folklore(some gods/goddesses, kappa, oni), illegal Yakuza dealings, and call it "Big Trouble in Little Tokyo".

Carpenter could still do the music.

Carpenter doesn't want to make a sequel from what I've read.

Somewhat discouraged, I pulled out my Big Trouble film poster for him to sign and complemented him on making a great film. He brightened at seeing Jack Burton's smiling mug and happily signed his name near the bottom. As he was doing so I raised the sequel issue to him again, quickly explaining how there was a significant fan base out there who check out the web page and enjoy the film on video. These people really want a sequel.

Carpenter looked up at me with tired eyes and simply replied, "The first film didn't make enough money..."

Expecting this, I countered by saying that if money wasn't an issue, if he could go ahead and make a sequel, would he do it?

The director shot his glance at the long line of people behind me and put down his pen. "I've already made Big Trouble in Little China," he said, "Why should I do it again?"

Kurt Russell is a must but how long is Carpenter's streak of bad movies at this point? Is he really the best choice to direct this? Either way I can't help but be excited about the prospect of a Big Trouble in Little China sequel. The original is the kind of action/adventure movie Hollywood lacks these days.

edit: lol just looked at the page OP linked. Not a convincing source to say the least.

Bitches love smiley faces
Hurray for crappy clickbait.

The closest we're getting to a sequel is the comics, which ain't half bad.

Yeah, this is a baseless rumor if I ever saw one.

And while I do love the original, it is definitely something that should be left alone in all its 80s cheesiness.

Never watched the original. Does it hold up?

Man, I really can't say for sure lol

I really love it but I watched it originally not many years after it released. And I still love it everytime I rewatch it, partly (or maybe mostly?) due to all the cheesy stuff.

It's definitely a product of its time, and I would be curious to know the opinion of someone who doesn't have any kind of "nostalgia glasses" blurring their appreciation of the film.

The movie is very cheesy and definitly a product of it's time. However that's part of it's appeal. What really makes the movie shine however is that it's completely self aware of how cheesy it is and often makes fun of a lot 80s tropes while simultaneously playing them straight.
