Sonic fans have quietly accepted the Sonic Cycle, they know the games are mostly below average and don't sell that well. Why fight it?
It's kind of a mystery how it remains so popular despite this. I reckon the cartoons and comics carried it.

Here's a red hot take for you, Ken Penders did more for Sonic than Sega ever did.

Sonic Rush, Sonic CD, Sonic Mania, all outstanding games.

And Sonic Adventure 1 is honestly a far better game than people give it credit for. It deserves a remake. 2 is fine. Heroes is surprisingly decent. Colors is pretty ok.
