A Game Feature You Thought Would Exist By Now?

I thought by now in RPG games if I typed in my character name that the voiced dialogue would be able to say my name back to me.

Now with all the AI technology out there it seems like a no brainer to play a game like Elder Scrolls and have it fully voice my name, or even create a list of 50 + popular names from the country you're from it can use, or just a generic "hero" if you don't want to use any of the 50.

It would be sick too if it could be anything like if I named my character Ivana JurgMenhoff.

What are some features you thought by now games would have?

I dont know about any RPGs, but i think some sports games and maybe Forza did this for a while now.
 
Jump forward and backwards in the game story, regardless of if I finished the game or not.
As a system-wide feature.

I'm not gonna replay a 50hr game but I'd love to see THAT story beat or environment.

And even if I want to jump forward in the story... So what? I've paid the game, sue me

Clan features in popular multiplayer (pvp) games. It's all just basic friends list shit. Where's the system to schedule and initiate clan matches in-game? It all went to shit once lobbies were replaced with matchmaking.
 
More than 2 games using Nemesis System, or something equivalent.

How has no studio tried to make a Batman game with it.
 
Fallout 4 did that, didn't it? I remember the disappointment when I found out my name wasn't on the list.

I'd love to be able to "rewind" to an earlier part of a game, or even fast-forward to a later part. Maybe that's something you unlock after you beat a game, but it would be so cool.

Yes, a lot of games have chapters, and that's mostly what I'm talking about. But I might want to rewind to a point where my character wasn't stacked yet or something.

Did it? I don't know. I played like a few hours of F4, then it wanted me to build stuff and I bounced off hard. I'm not here to play Minecraft bro.
 
Good fluid animations like cg. We have great graphics and 4k but animations still looks lile crap in general, so robotic.

And yes, the settlement part sucked balls. That and the dude with the cowboy hat sending you on a shitty procgen mission every so often.
Fallout 4 was disappointing to me for sure. Cool shooting and very good exploration, but everything else kinda sucked. If you think Skyrim's dumbing down was bad, they outdid themselves with Fallout 4.

Self realised NPC Boss

Like they know what number of attempt and they grow increasingly annoyed or open up about lore more. Just normal NPCs always keeping in check what last conversations you had with them.
Basically what this game has done, Dark queen of Mortholme.
 
I remember when Chaos from Sonic Adventure would email you. It was always a simple email from a list of possible sentence patterns but it was super cute. Surprised more games don't try to do ARG level things that interact with you in a more natural way that isn't just spam emails from the dev asking for more of your money. I want my FFXIV retainers to email me asking if it's okay for them to steal the roof off another house, I want a text message from Astrobot telling me to find them IRL at the mall. Something that crosses the 4th wall in a fun way. Ovb made in a very opt-in by default way.

Exiting the game without having to go through the logoff screen. Weeb games notoriously lack this feature. I always have to alt-f4 jrpgs.

They do, but the now canceled Black Panther was going to do something similar in their own way.

Developers can take inspiration from it and expand it in their own unique ways.
 
I would hope for better integration between the games and the system, especially on consoles which are a closed environment. For example if a game recognizes that I've played the previous installments it should automatically copy the control scheme and disable or limit basic tutorials. Or if it notices that I haven't played for months it should offer a quick refresher.

It's very rare when a game checks the saves and somehow reacts to it. Now I understand that this may need some additional authorization to scan the system, but if it's done in a controlled way and the user agreed to it, then why not?

I guess it's not a feature per se, but you'd think standardized control inputs would be a no-brainer for most games, especially for core actions. But no, some developers seem determined to f.ex. put the jump button on the right trigger, apparently just because they're "so special and different!".

(tbf, it's often possible to customize controls through other means, but I don't think that's possible on f.ex. the Nintendo Switch, is it? 🙏).

Recap function. If I take up a game I haven't played in months my only option is to restart it as I feel like I don't really know what I'm doing anymore. Especially with open-world games or games with deep mechanics.

I've noticed some games do a refresher now at least for story bits if you forgot. And something I played recently was giving me tutorials again even though I was far into it. Made picking it back up easy but I can't recall what game it was.

That's just such a great quality of life especially on very long games.

Yep there was something like that in one game I played, but can't remember the title. Usually I spend 30-60 minutes learning everything again or... start from scratch. :/

I like how Yakuza or Forza check your saves, but it's only to give you some bonus content and you're still treated like a rookie with all of the systems explained in great detail.

I would have thought all games would have accurate playtime calculators by now. The fact some games still count your playtime while the game is paused or even in stand-by for days is dumb.

We are already on the cusp of this, but the legalities behind voice acting are going to always be the issue here that holds the line, and it's going to be an issue across the world with voice actors.

They simply don't trust corporations enough to sign away their voice and it's future usage all for the low low price of a happy meal.
 
Perpetual corpses and bullet holes would be nice, most games still fudge it and have them vanish. That would add an extra degree of immersion to games, and also if you backtrack through an area you'd be reminded of the fights you won and the mayhem you caused!
 
I would assume separate voice and text languages should be standard by now, then Doom TDA hit and I had to change my goddamn OS region/language configuration just to have at least latinamerican spanish set up in the game (with no english voices, btw).

Dear devs, NOBODY wants the game to automatically pick the languages for them and not give them options later just because "tHaT's tHe lAnGuAgE oF tHe rEgIoN sO tHeY sHoUlD nOt cOmPlAiN wHy ThEy WaNt To HeAr AnOtHeR lAnGuAgE bRuH 🤪".

Even Japanese devs of all understand this already...
