Earlier this year there was a re-release in the UK of Bowie's albums Outside, Earthling, and Hours... . Each was beefed out to a two-disc set. There was a 2,000-copy numbered limited edition of a six-disc box:
but the box has no content that the separate two-disc releases don't have.
Here are the contents for the second disc of each release:
Now, I already have some of this stuff on various other CD5s and rare releases: five tracks off the Outside disc; four off the Earthling disc; and only one off the Hours... disc, which I don't care about because those sessions were crap. So I'm reluctant to spend $25/disc for a few remixes. Especially because I'd only be getting Hours... for completist reasons, and to satisfy my curiosity about how those songs sounded in the Omikron video game.
But I'm hearing from conflicting sources that these albums either are or are not new remasters. So--if you've heard these, is there any sort of sonic upgrade from the original releases? Or is this another greedy Bowie double-dip?
