I agree with this one whole heartedly. Current DVDs WILL work in Blu Ray drives (PS3) so your NOT being forced to buy your whole backlog of DVDs again. I also believe that the PS3 may have a scaler that allows regular DVDs to be upsampled to 720p/1080p.

I do believe they're intending to shrink it to blade server-esque proportions so fitting it into the relatively larger PS3 shell shouldn't be a problem

If you actually saw what was inside that HUGE box you would be like WTF. The box itself is nearly emplty, the reason for all the space is to keep the CELL cool or something. I remember reading this at B3D.

don't forget that one of the big selling points of BRD is that it's going to be a recordable format. All (or most) commercial players will be BRD players / recorders from the start. The PS3 will only be a player. That helps justify other manufacturers (and even Sony themselves) selling their initial BRD players at $1000+ while the PS3 exists at less than half the price.

The PS3 will only be a player. That helps justify other manufacturers (and even Sony themselves) selling their initial BRD players at $1000+ while the PS3 exists at less than half the price.

Yup - I'm hoping Sony does come out with a HDD equipped and/or a Blu-Ray recorder version of PS3 though.

Probably not initially in order not to confuse the market.
