A note about Persona 5 Streaming From Atlus

Well they're on GAF, so hopefully they see how we're not happy. But considering how long it took them to add dual audio we may be waiting till Persona 10.

They already knew what the response would be. The problem is communicating and easing concerns that AtlusJP execs would have.

Good luck with that. Maybe you should've done a worldwide release if you were so worried about international fans being spoiled.

It's also super crazy that they specifically threaten content ID claims. That's not what that's for, right? So they're straight up saying they'll abuse the system to take your video down if they have to. Crazy.

Content ID exists for people uploading copyrighted content that the original creator wants to make money off of. They submit footage, which Content ID checks a video for and then puts ads on the video (if it didn't have any already) and gives the money to the original creator.

I have one on a video of a guy dancing to Gangnam Style, but that's because the whole song is in the video.

This will probably result in Nintendo style backlash, in which major YouTubers refuse to stream or record their gameplay.

We can't observe this because it's impossible to know how much Persona 5 would sell without these "guidelines".

There's no valuable data to gain.
At least we'll see if this is a big enough of a deal to really harm them in any way. May it be sales or goodwill on social media. Streamers will cry foul, I'm interested in what the bugger gaming population will do. How they will react.

I don't think there will be anything to observe, people will stream it anyway.
Then we'll see if ATLUS really wants to "go there" or not. That could be interesting too.

This being a Japanese title with a single-playthrough story means our masters in Japan are very wary about it. Sharing is currently blocked through the native PS4 UI. However, if you do plan on streaming, video guidelines above apply except length. If you decide to stream past 7/7 (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT DOING THIS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED), you do so at the risk of being issued a content ID claim or worse, a channel strike/account suspension.

it must suck to be beholden to morons

Pretty sure this is an AtlusJP mandate. The US branch is just doing what it been told to.

Dont really care either way, I'm not watching any stream before playing the game.

I've been playing the english version for a week now and the specific stuff they call out to not spoil wasn't that huge, acting like this shit is GoT.

Real bad look.

Atlus JP is the worst company in the console gaming business. Amazing developer, but as a company they're out of their fucking minds.

I genuinely can't think of a single other company that has actively threatened its own customers in the same way as this one. I honestly don't think I can support them in good faith anymore.

I know I was hard on them earlier but the more I think about it and reread those various key sections of the statement, I feel bad for the people at Atlus US who are clearly against bullshit like this but are completely powerless against it. The dynamic between the branches is just shocking for a game company in this day and age.

If I was a major Youtuber, I'd either do that or record the entire thing and post it online.

If you make money off of YouTube then there isn't any incentive to do this, as you could play a different game where the publisher doesn't care wether or not you play it.

The guy who replaced him uses the atlusprime account now.

Ah.

Weird. I don't see how this gets rid of spoilers. I've never just accidentally watched hours of a playthrough and spoiled a game. People are going to spoil it on twitter/forums regardless of stream rules

I don't think Atlus Japan is genuinely concerned about spoilers, but rather that people will watch streams instead of buying the game.

By removing the easiest way of getting recorded videos if story sequences onto the youtubes? I think not. Elgatos aren't really that common.

The posted this, which will invite spiteful people to go against their wishes when they otherwise would not have been so inclined. It's pretty straightforward.

This will make sure that every piece of anything they'll ever post online will have P5 spoilers in the comments section.

weird...why do this? if someone is watching a play through they are doing so willingly.

Theyre equating streaming to piracy as in it's a lost sale for them when someone is watching.

I wonder if they think something like the Giantbomb Endurance run of P4 hurt sales of the game ?

While I think these rules are dumb, I actually don't think this is true. Otherwise they'd have these rules for their other games, too.

Fun fact: while they removed it from the final game, Persona 4 originally started with a warning asking you not to spoil the story for other players.

I never thought there would be anything more insane than the Square Enix thing telling you to stream with the music turned off, but welp there ya go

Definitely seems like a Atlus Japan decision which the US branch has to try to abide by.

They're gonna have a ton of trouble getting people to play along with that.

Where/when did this happen?

This is so fucking stupid. It's gonna backlash so hard too. Assholes are gonna go out of their way to spoil people, completely out of spite.

That sounds like the most Atlus Japan thing.

Thinking people won't buy their game just because people post/stream full playthroughs. I guess if they see a 'major' spoiler they would consider not getting it because "oh... no point now" which is a weird general mentality thing. We know at this point no one plays Persona for the gameplay

It's funny because that ED really got me into Persona and SMT as a whole. I've spent hundreds on Atlus games because of GB.

Is this some kind of psychological experiment they're running? Telling the internet not to eat the marshmallow?

persona 5's story is TOO GOOD that if you go into it unspoiled you'll probably fall into a catatonic state just from how SUPER AWESOME it is. so to prevent their fans from not being able to purchase PERSONA 5 DLC they plan to utilize the streisand effect to make sure everyone is spoiled on the game before they reach 7/7 and can thus continue to be ATLUS FAITHFULS and buy their products

Well, you can't really handle spiteful people anyway ¯_(ツ)_/ ¯
At the end the number of videos created by those people will still be marginally lower than the amount that would hit the net if the record-function wasn't blocked.

I mean I understand Atlus wants to protect their games from fresh minds but cmon...this is just a little too much. There will be spoilers but its not going to be that bad...

I really dont get the big deal about the streaming restrictions but taking down lets plays on YouTube seems kind of scummy.

Don't care. Still going to stream it and upload to my Youtube as well just as a giant middle finger. It's 2017. The game has been out in Japan and this never applied to them. They can shove this up their ass.

I honestly kinda can't complain.

When you make games as good as P5, it grants you the right to be a bitch about it.

XD

Is it weird that I find this...really badass ?

They don't give the slightest hoot about being a respectable company.

Their reaction to spoilers is basically a carefree middle finger.

There really and seriously is no evidence that's true

Yeah same here and I'm sure it did to a lot of people. Helped GB and Atlus. I guess Atlus Has a hard time understanding mutually beneficial relationships.
