I truly am a stereotypical nerd, I love videogames, Anime and especially Hentai. I guess it comes from me having watched Animation religiously since I was a kid and never stopping as I grew older. Then I discovered Anime with Akira and Ninja Scroll in the mid 90's and was enthralled. Then I finally watched my first hentai (Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend) and I was hooked. Now, any sane person would look at me and see a disturbed individual from what I've written.

So let me elaborate, I don't approve of the "rape" that permeates the majority of hentai releases and wish there was less of it. That said, I recognize that as an Animation, its not real and I wouldn't wish anything of that sort to occur in real life (same as someone who plays GTA wouldn't wan't to do some of those things in RL, at least, I think ). That said, my tates in Hentai definately are on the freaky side as I'm a fan of Toshio Maeda, the creator of Urotsukidoji and other infamous series such as LA Blue Girl and Nightmare Campus. Known for their demonic sex/tentacle themes. Of course, I also appreciate stuff like Bible Black and softcore comedies such as New Angel.

Lately, I came across the remake of the original Urotsukidoji (New Saga), and I was impressed by the clear amount of work put into it, and one can tell it is a big budget title due to the animation quality. It is definately one of the most story-intense hentai titles out there and I recommend it if you can afford it or find it cheap (I did on Half.com).

So please, while I'm not expecting an overtly positive response here, I'm curious as to what the rest of you guys are into (if you're into this sort of thing), if not, then thats cool, enjoy the videogames as I do.

Yeah, I'm probably pretty open about things like this to a fault, but oh well. And you're probably right, to the normal person, hentai should make no sense. But I don't know, for some reason I enjoy it, at least, I enjoy those that keep me entertained, I won't spend money on just mindless animated sex, cause then thats what real porn is supposed to be for.

The hentai I watch make a serious attempt at telling a story or being comical, otherwise, no sale for me.

Thats actually a big problem I have with most recent releases of Hentai, for it seems that they're now trying to push the envelope pretty damn far in terms of the fetish stuff like Bondage and other gross out stuff (heh, this coming from a guy who tolerates tentacles).

Which is why I prefer hentai titles that either have a comedic or unrealistic (fantasy/horror) storyline, cause everything else just seems to be focusing on the fetish stuff lately. I also don't like hentai where they make the girls so obviously under 18, I mean, it does get a bit too much.

Which is again why I recommend this remake of Urotsukidoji, cause other than two tentacle scenes in the three episode span, the rest is just straight-on (literally) action.

Mystery of Necronomicon is pretty good. Not so much hentai, though there are some pretty graphic & detailed sex scenes. It's more story driven, instead of having some silly filler material in between sex scenes.

Are you talking about movies in general? Well of course, I just recently saw Spiderman 2 and loved it, and I watch Master and Commander on a regular basis. I watch it for both the artwork (since i'm an artist) and the story (since I'm a storyteller) and as to the last of your points, well, sometimes the animation is just too good to ignore.

But of course, the majority of the Hentai out there are very low quality animation, and I avoid those. The big budget titles are usually the ones that have the best animation and a good effort at telling a story like the Urotsukidoji series.

It's rare to see hentai with good animation or plot(see: reason why people like Bible Black so much despite the fetish stuff), so I largely look for the characters. If the artists put a shred of originality into the designs then that's usually a plus for me

Well, of course in normal anime there isn't any sex (maybe implied, but never shown), plus I think the open sexual aspect can add more depth to the characters should the producers choose to go that route, which is unfortunately rare in Hentai since as most of you would agree, the focus is on sex, and the characters being dense or dry matters not.

Of course, one must also watch Hentai with the original Japanese voice acting, since they seem to take their jobs seriously (also, Japanese women have a nicer moan than Western women IMO)

Supposedly, it was originally in response to the heavy censorship laws in Japan at the time about not being able to draw male anatomy, so they found a way around that. Now I think the laws have been relaxed and they're allowed to draw whatever they want, but I believe they still have to put a mosaic (blur the image) over the "action" in order to be released.
