A Plague Tale Requiem Dev Talks About Advantages of PS5 Hardware; Doubling Down on DualSense

Asobo Studio’s Lead Level Designer Kevin Pinson spoke briefly about the team using the power of the PS5, and how it has allowed them to make use of lighting, and how players will see that in the gameplay itself.

“Specifically, we are a game about light,” Asobo Studio’s lead level designer Kevin Pinson told Play Magazine.

“The power of the PS5 allows us to have more lights, [and] do more things with it. It’s really expensive from a game engine perspective to use the light as a gameplay mechanic, but this current gen allows us to use more dynamic lights.” Light was, of course, an important mechanic in the previous game, enabling you to keep rats away from Amicia, but that’s being expanded with the use of tar. When you throw it at an open flame, that sticky stuff will increase a torch’s flaming radius for a time, the broader light allowing you to reach areas you couldn’t before.

And while the team has had some experience with both current-gen platforms with the release of a remastered version of A Plague Tale, on the PS5 side of things, they note that they’re “doubling down” on the DualSense features.

The process of remastering the original game for PS5 was beneficial to the team, helping them work out early on what unique features they could implement on the console.

Naturally the studio is doubling down on using the DualSense’s haptics to ensure you really feel that dreadful sensation of being swarmed by rats between your fingers.

Pinson adds, “With Requiem it’s also a lot about the soundscapes and the physicality of the environment, so we try to transcribe that into the haptic feedback.

It’s really good playing with the PS5 DualSense. I’m happy that people will soon play and give us feedback about it!”

he was speaking to a PS magazine. the game is gonna look stunning like the last one did. looking forward to it

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Sony picking up Asobo before MS does, these acquisition wars are heating up to such an extent that it’ll soon be on a personal level. Maybe one could considered it already was with Sony buying the makers of Spencers favourite game and Halo.

I guess it’s mildly off topic, but I really wish MS would design a controller with dualsense features because I’d find playing games like FH5 far more enjoyable with a controller like the dualsense. I hear people calling it a gimmick, and it can be in some games, but it really comes into its own with racing games.

Im forcing myself to play through the first one. Found it pretty boring initially.
I gave up on chapter 10 or something when I checked how many more I had left. I had my fingers crossed wishing that I was close to the end. Very, very boring gameplay. It became better when I switched the audio to French but I still couldn’t power through it. I won’t touch the sequel in a million years.

Yes it really boils down to how developers use it. I find the haptics better than the rumble the DS4 had. As for the triggers it really depends on how they use it. I love it when they simulate the trigger break in fire arms. Plus having dual functions (Ratchet for example) is pretty useful since you know when the second function activates.

It's not about the limelight lol, it's about accurate informative, only triggered fanboys would have a problem with this.

Happy that they’re doing this, Innocence felt super fucking intense playing with the DualSense. They had one of the best third-party implementations for the controller imo, and that was for a remaster of the game as well. Can’t wait.

Wait, did the article explicitly state that? You really need to come into the thread to validate your box? Article doesn't state any exclusive features for PS5 other than dualsense so no need to be insecure about it, man.
It's certainly could be perceived that way. No harm in stating that it's most likely for pc and series consoles aswell. Clearly I was mistaken, not my problem that some folks get so upset by such a trivial thing.

As crackajack says, it would be interesting if they do given their continuous work on Flight Sim

Started on French but yeah, its a bit like Spiderman and a bit like most of the Yakuza games. I kinda had to power my way through the gameplay but i did enjoy the cast/story.

These guys (Focus is the publisher) are the only ones charging last-gen prices as far as I’m aware, hopefully stays that way.
