On the gaming side, you just have to make sure you have ultra-refined skimming skills, and the sense to know -- preferably before clicking -- that a thread will degenerate into idiocy. If you spend enough time over there, it becomes a sort of 6th sense.
Of course, the OT isn't without its flaws ("GIRL PROBLEMS PART 12: THE RETURN OF MY ANGST").
