That's a lean, concentrated team, developing a game in a reasonable amount of time. That's the way it's done.

More like 600 to 800k when accounting for localization, marketing, distribution, etc, as well as the fact that the game has not been in development for three years but actually nearly four, since Playroom came out at the launch of PS5 in November 2020.
 
I'm not watching it now, but does he have some special source that is not available for anyone else? Team Asobi stated in 2022 that they had ~60 employees on the team (and that they were expecting to grow up for over 100), and of course, the studio was established in April 2021.
 
It will easily do more than this too. Perhaps Sony can learn a thing or two from this, as well as Nintendo games
I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but this is exactly what we need more of in this industry. Smaller teams with a high concentration of talent, willing to experiment with new concepts, and not just chase cutting-edge graphics or current gaming trends.
