Ace Combat 5

Is Ace Combat 5 worth 35 bucks? This dry spell of the summer is forcing me to look toward another game, and I want something kinda cheap since 360/PSP are taking all my money this winter.

Are there any desert based missions in it?

Have you played Ace Combat IV? Buy that it's better than AC5.

Ace Combat IV owns, Doom_Bringer is so right. Ace Combat 5 is good too... but, yeah. Some little charming aspects they took away that's a disappointment.

Anyway, it's definitely worth it either way.

yeah, I have played AC4... I was looking for an upgrade in presentation and graphics, so that is why I was looking at AC5. The other thing that really nags me is that I know that it will drop in price to 20 bucks the second I buy it, and I would rather have it at that price.

I also am kinda holding off because of that new Taito game for the 360 that will be shown at TGS.

AC5 owns. If you liked AC4 then it's a no-brainer, man. I think it's objectively a better game than it's prequel, with nearly double the missions...and much more mission variety as well.

You're either in the doom bringer camp (AC4 is god), the crazymoogle camp (AC5 is GOTY 2K4) or another unidentified camp that doesn't post often on GAF.

Too bad most of the missions suck and the wing mates are fucking annoying as hell. Namco Jr. team really fucked up AC5.

I'd be in both camps, if only Pikmin 2 and MGS3 didn't come out last year.

Is breathing worth 35 bucks? Damn right it is! ;)

Yes you have to support a bombing campaign that has you flying back and forth between an airbase, and a few other places on a desert map.

Eh, I think nostalgia is clouding your opinion quite a bit. The missions most certainly do not suck, considering they are similiar in structure to the ones in AC4. Guess the missions in #4 suck too, huh? :P

The wingmate thing is a matter of personal preference. Personally, I liked them just fine. :P

The thing with AC5 is that it's really more of the same(but better). It's not the massive upgrade AC4 was compared to the previous games. If you come in expecting a sequel of that magnitude then you'll get disappointed. :P

Please. There isn't a single mission in Ace Combat V that can compete with Lifeline, Shattered Skies, Breaking Arrows, Megalith, Emancipation, and Siege of Farbanti from AC4. Those were top class memorable missions that poop all over any mission from AC5.

And the wing mates were really annoying, especially Chopper and Nagese.

You forgot the seamanky camp(Dropship: United Peace Force > AC4).

Where's rolleyes when you need it?

Ace Combat 5 was worth the $5 I paid :)

But I liked Ace Combat 4 better.

AC5: Missile shot trashed.

Picked up AC5 recently, used for $30. Enjoying it quite a bit. As a fan of the series, it delivers, at least for me.

Come on, Breaking Arrows? You must be kidding me. A boring trudge over the arctic where you chase down cruise missiles. No drama, no danger, no creative design, not even multiple objectives, just lockon-fire-lockon-fire.

Second only to Safe Return as the worst mission in the game.

I really liked the settings and the music in that mission. Chasing multiple missiles and especially the last nuke warhead was pretty tense as it came closer to the base.

Flying low across icebergs surrounded by beautiful northern lights, ahhh that stage was beautiful! And you don’t have to shoot missiles you know! You can always use your machine gun to make it more challenging.

Bad missions in Ace Combat IV: Whiskey Corridor, Escort and Tango Line. I forgot to mention some other awesome missions: The Northern Eye and Blockade are pretty awesome too.

Ace Combat IV = Best Ace Combat ever!!
