RIP, seen him in so many good shows, and heard his voice work in a few games as well, sad news.

Damn, loved that guy in Candy-man, Final Destination and just about every awesome B movie out there. Rest in peace, my friend. Just an iconic, dude.

You're grandpa and talk about your young age, how old are you?
I’m a grandpa at 44. Had my first grandchild at 39. Candyman got me as a kid and taught me to never go to Caprini Green. I lost a bet and had to go with one of my Marines to an apartment complex right in there. Ended up being made fun of constantly, was amazing.

Story checks out!

Semper fi :p

Man, loved him as Candyman, Works brother and the Rock mercenary.

RIP Candyman. He had one of those voices like James Earl Jones. When you hear it, you know exactly who it is.

Awesome voice actor, loved his small roles in Final Destination

Now what a fucking shame Insomniac cut most of his lines in Spiderman 2 to push MJ missions lol

RIP. Tremendous actor. Candyman scared the living fuck out of me as a kid. Still one of the best horror films of the 90s.

Yeah, all real bees in every single scene, and while Tony Todd was stung multiple times, his contract ensured him an additional thousand dollars for each sting. Also Virginia Madsen, the main actress, was extremely allergic to bees, so they had to make sure an ambulance was on standby at all times just to be safe. Also, because they were shooting on location in the films’ exterior scenes of Cabrini-Green, they hired various local gang members to be extras in the film so that in addition said members could ensure the crew’s safety.

Also was adapting one of Clive Barker’s novellas, the same author who wrote the novella that Hellraiser was adapted from.

Holy shit, it's actually crazy they did that. On one hand, I admire the dedication to the craft; rarely see it nowadays (in a lot of ways because many modern folks in Hollywood are activists instead of actors & actresses). On the other hand, risking getting stung a thousand time or even death for a film role!? Yeah you gotta be really into it!

Gonna miss Tony Todd; RIP 😭. A lot of iconic people have passed away this year; this one's up there with Carl Weathers and Akira Toriyama in terms of being the most surprising and arguably too soon (especially in Toriyama's case; he was 56 IIRC). Just really sucks we've been losing so many great talents this year in particular; we've lost many through the years but it feels "condensed" in 2024 if that makes any sense.

Think I'm gonna rewatch Candyman & Night of the Living Dead over the weekend, been a long time since seeing them.

Are all young grandpas and pops stop supporting their sons and daughters at a young age? cause I've heard about that stereotype and it destroys more than helping them grow strong.

I cut them off at birth. As soon as they came crawling out of the canal, I put a K-bar in their hand and they had to fight, claw, steal, to get their own diapers, mix their own bottles, so on and so forth. Then at 17 I branded them with a big “Y” and sent them packing out in the world. I also kept them from school, so I do not have to worry about them turning against me as they cannot read, nor write. There can be only one.

It helps them be strong.

Edit: I will admit that my youngest when he was three got caught up in an illegal fighting ring. The toddler vs toddler violence was just too visceral and I couldn’t take it. He ended up losing me quit a bit of my yearly gambling funds. Don’t worry though, he is 23 now and still can walk straightish from the leg injury sustained against a 5 year old identifying as a 3 year old. I wrote a strongly worded letter to his parents, fear not.

Goddamn this has been a harsh year or so for some amazing black actors!

Time to wrap Morgan Freeman, Wesley Snipes, Denzel, and all the others in foam to protect them!
Damn, when Morgan Freeman goes, I may genuinely have to take a day, the whole of entertainment will most likely.

I loved the Candyman movies... well mostly just the first one really... But Tony Todd is one of those actors who would appear in so many different things, movie roles, TV roles, and videogames. I remember him making an appearance on 21 Jump Street (The original TV series), Star Trek the Next Generation, X-Files (was a huge X-Files fan), and yeah, he was the voice of the prominent 'main' Vortigaunt in Half-Life 2 Episode Two. He was a surprisingly versatile actor.

'The Visitor' from Deep Space Nine. He was so good in that. Also as Kern, Worf's brother. Very sad news.

Only seen him in a movie recently where they kind of set him up to maybe be a big part in a sequel if it was made, was kinda looking forward to it. This seems to have happened relatively unexpected?

Very sad to hear, much like Lance Reddick he got famous mostly for his voice, but he was also a great actor at the end of the day. Candyman and Night of the Living Dead are among my favorite horror films, I'll probably rewatch them this year.

Candyman and that deep, deep voice will forever live as part of my childhood, grabbing scary movies from the local video store and then OMG the bees! 😱

Lets remember him...

🥺🪞 Tony Todd, Tony Todd...
