I think we all have those actors we see on the poster/trailer and it inspires some confidence in us that the movie might be good. Some actors can make a movie better just by being in it, even if the plot isn't the best. I'll name three actors off the top of my head:

Liam Neeson

Ever since Taken, I've enjoyed the heck out of Neeson. The moment I see his name slapped on an action movie, I'll watch it in a heartbeat. He just understands how to be a good leading action star. He brings so much personality and legitimacy to every role. I can name several of his I've enjoyed: The Grey, Unknown, Non-Stop, The Commuter, Cold Pursuit. The guy is awesome. Selfishly I'd love to see him just make a new action movie every year instead of branching out, he's just too good at it.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Ever since Donnie Darko, I've enjoyed Jake as an actor a lot. No role of his ever feels the same, he brings something a little different to each character he plays. I think his 'average' performances are still better than the typical actor. He just understands acting in a way a lot don't. My favourite roles of his are Prisoners and Nightcrawler. I'll watch any movie with his name on it. You don't even have to sell me on the plot. If he is in a top role, I'll watch it.

Denzel Washington

Much like Neeson, I really enjoy Denzel in action films. That is really underselling him though, he thoroughly understands serious roles too. If you've ever watched Flight or American Gangster, you will know what I'm talking about. The guy has some serious acting chops, and conveys emotion so well. It's very hard for me not to enjoy a movie with him in it. Virtually impossible.

I don't really pick movies by their actors, but I do enjoy Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks. I also like Jason Statham, although his movies are hit-and-miss.

I think Keanu is overrated and Johnny Depp plays the same character in every project.

I used to watch all movies with Arnold (since I grew up watching films with 80s and 90s action stars), but after his return to acting he's starred in mostly shitty movies. Plus his role in Terminator is dead (at least until another big reboot).

It's not that I don't think some of them are good actors , it's just that some actors take their real-life selves so seriously when it comes to certain things that I have a hard time believing their characters now. Also, I don't want to give them my money to pass on to causes I'm opposed to.

Yes, that's the one. It could have been really lame but Tom Hardy plays the shit out of it.

Phone Booth is one of my favourite movies. Really sold me on Colin Farrell as an actor, and you can't get any better than Kiefer Sutherland as the caller. Very tense movie.

Yes. Despite the fact it takes place in a phone booth (which is outdated now) the movie is paced so well and is so exciting to watch. I can guarantee you'll love it. It's a tense thrill ride.
