I can't stop playing this "game" -
http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/.
You can figure a bunch of stuff out : fire burns oil and plant, sprout and water grows plant, the Namekuji likes water.

This is quite relaxing too... like one of those zen gardens.

Take screenshots ;b

It's a really brilliant example of how really simple rules can create not only elaborate emergent play, but also really expressive play. You can form oil bombs by putting a wall, filling it with oil, and using the cera/wax to create a fuse. Alternately, you can create these elaborate self-sustaining ecosystems of plants and water that are occasionally destroyed and reset by fire. And everything in between.

Hooray for expressive gameplay!

I spent a long while playing with it.
The most fun I had was making a maze, using spouts along the horizontal paths, which slowly filled it up with water.
Then I set a plant at each corner to grow and saw them race.

While they are crawling, you can set a fire at each corner and watch it burn up, but go away thanks to the spouts.

You can turn the Namekuji off in the corner. Makes it easier to do what you want.

Don't give it salt.

i'd love to see updates with more 'elements' added to it :)

such as a constant 'fire' so i could like make a furnace out of it instead of burning up all the walls haha...

you see the little red spot in the lower right corner? That's the fire. :D

This is a brilliant innovative revolutionary emergent expressive intelligent game that I will forget about forever in about 45 minutes, having spent no money to play it.

Beautiful game. I created some stof with the falling sand, it looked like a colorful chandelier. Its very soothing

Such a time waster... I've spent at least four hours over the last few days dabbling with it. My favorite thing to do is to create a world full of plant 'seeds' encircled by cera in a world of 5x water, 5x oil, and tons of spouts. Finally, add a big blob of cera where the oil accumulates and light the middle on fire. Then I just let it roll.. it becomes an endless cycle of growth and destruction that is guaranteed to to put you to sleep and haunt your dreams!

Here's a tip to those who want to run it offline: Save the sand7.jar file to a folder, open Notepad and create a *.bat file with the following code
Code:
java -jar sand7.jar sand7
inside. Make sure the *.bat file is in the same folder as the sand7.jar file and voila!

Can you post a pic of your little world? I'd love to see it, and possibly try to recreate it.

I just wanted to comment and speak on behalf of the many views on this thread that agree but didn't reply earlier......... the sand game is fun as hell, lol.
