I got this pretty bad networking issue, everything, and i mean.. everything I slow.

I did some snooping around with etherea, thel captures from my two networked pcs bring the same kind of results, the white restangles are there to protect my friend's ip..

Here I was sending files to a friend on msn and browsing around. Pretty damn bad. Pinging the same ips and sites bring no packet loss, traceroutes times are pretty normal. I switched some cables around, but it didnt change anything, the errors were still there.. Notice how it goes thru after the third try

So I tell myself, oh.. router issue. My router is a v3.0 WRT54G, It was running on the 3.07.* firmware since I bought it back in July. I've been having networking issues all week, Friday night I said what the hell and tried a firmware update, just for the hell of it. Speed problems were still there.

I plugged my dsl modem straight into one of my pc (with the same cable that links that pc to the router, start an ethereal capture.. It's still incredibly slow.. Stop the capture, check it out.. what the fuck? No CRC Checksum errors? my friends on the isp tells me they dont have any apparant speed problems too, give a call to the isp, nothing special to report, everything is fine there..

O____o Words fail me :|

I have no idea where to start. Also the 2 computers connected to the network are clean, no viruses, rootkits, bots running, no bt or any p2p apps installed, nothing. They are clean.

I kind of suspect that my isp is having bw issues in my area but they don't want to admit it, it happened in the past, but now its been going on for a while, and it really sucks.

- Who is your ISP? If it's Alltel, then I can verify that they are having issues in certain areas as of 3 or so months ago. They let people get higher speeds without upgrading their equipment properly, and it's dragging them down in certain markets. The last I heard, it's still going on.

- If the DSL modem is acting like this off of your LAN and hooked up directly to a computer, it's either the cord from the modem to the PC/router, the modem itself, or the phone company. If you're still on your contract term, ask for a new modem, they should be able to replace it. If not, keep badgering their tech support until they get you to a higher level suport rep who can actually troubleshoot network issues. Don't believe what the lower level reps say, they are almost always reading a script.
