Advantages other then having wider viewing angles? I've been looking into 27"-30" flats and I like them because they look sexy, but at the same time I can get a crt tv for the same price with a larger screen.

Is the wider viewing angle the only draw flats have?

I'm confused. What does flat-screen refer to? LCD?

It seems like all HDTV CRTs are flat, and should have a superior viewing angle to LCDs.

I'll let someone else pick up from there, because honestly I know very little. I will once I start to care in a couple years when I buy one. All I know is that Sony XBRs have incredible pictures.

he's talking about lcds and plasmas i guess. they're better for your eyes in most cases for one. they don't have wider viewing angles though so i dunno what you're talking about

I think he is referring to a CRT with a flat screen as opposed to the curved screen. And as heavy liquid said, the image looks a LOT better (I have an old sharp 27" with the curved tube and a 27" crt wega and while the sharp still looks pretty good for the type of tv it is, the wega completely stomps over it in terms of quality of image). My parents initially gave me a LOT of flack for choosing a smaller tv size over a reg. crt tv (could have easily gotten a 32" regular crt tv for over $100 less than the price of the 27" flat screen) but they are very happy with how it turned out.

I believe you are mixing up your terms Insertia.

Flat-Screen = Actual screen of the TV is flat and nothing more. CRTs may also have this property though some (mostly older) ones don't.

Flat-Panel = Whole tv is flat. Plasmas and LCDs fall in this category.

Advantages of flat-screen CRT's? Well, they're simply better than everything except in regards to maximum screen size and minimum footprint.

Will start substantiating his hate
Nearly all quality tubes are flat today. In other words, the smaller (but flat) screen should offer a better picture.
