After Cancelling Most PC Ports, Sony Promotes New 'PC Ready' Controller

In terms of its public face, it's business as usual at Sony: it's not the one that reported on the cancellation of PlayStation games being ported to PC. However, on the same day it's reliably suggested single player first-party efforts won't appear elsewhere anymore, it's perhaps a little funny to see Sony advertise a new "PC ready" controller bundle.

In reality, this is just a normal black PS5 controller bundled with a USB cable to let you connect it to a computer.

However, select regional PlayStation social media accounts have started advertising it at a price of $74.99. It's a "simple set-up" and offers "unmissable immersion", according to the promotional material.

Of course, any PC game on Steam with controller support offers the ability to use the PS5 controller, so this bundle still has a functional use going forward. If you want to use a PS5 pad on PC, that option will still be available to you despite yesterday's news — you just won't get single player games like Saros or Marvel's Wolverine on the platform anymore.

What will continue to be ported over are Sony's live service efforts, such as Marathon and Fairgames. These titles need a healthy playerbase to stay afloat and bring success, so you'll continue to see them make the jump across to PC. Then, Helldivers 2 proves there's even an avenue to an Xbox Series X|S version for these Games as a Service, too.

It'll also be interesting to see how this decision affects Sony's push into the console and PC accessory market.

Throughout the PS5 generation, the company has released a large range of accessories for both the console and PC audience. There are the Pulse Elevate wireless speakers launching later this year, and also the FlexStrike wireless fight stick. Both accessories can be used on PS5 and PC.

The reports are referencing single player games specifically so that shouldn't affect other revenue streams like accessories, live service etc. Console manufacturers have always made a good profit from accessories to help with the loss/break even on the console. Pulling back on sales of that outside PS wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Are the rumors being taken as fact?

Because Sony hasn't confirmed anything at all about returning to complete exclusivity for single-player games.

The title is quite pretentious.
The best part about PCMR is they complain Sont titles are going bye bye and then say they don't care about boring woke games. Sometimes I feel like I'm at a zoo when I see console warriors and PCMR types.

Sony's PC games are always WOKE.

Interestingly, the most praised game by PC gamers is Baldur's Gate 3, which, ironically...

But you won't hear them mention that the Game of the Year winner is also WOKE.

The hate for Sony is worldwide on forums, dressed in a long gown of hypocrisy.

Neo member… your gonna go far kid

Why is it surprising that they try to sell peripherals to PC gamers? Even if the rumours are true, that still covers only SP stuff. They'll still be releasing multiplayer games.

Yeah remember they announced a slew of those desktop focused shits and gotta find a way to sell. I doubt PC players would give a fuck tho.

I have no idea why this is so shocking. I bought a purple dualsense much before I jumped into current gen with a PS5. The dualsense is honestly the best feeling controller on the market. The chinese controllers (8bitdo, gamesir, et al) feel really cheap. I have no idea what voodoo Sony pulled off with the buttons, but I like how quiet they are compared to other controllers. Also, the Dualsense haptics are the best in the business, the Steam Deck and NS2pro haptics are much weaker and I prefer old school vibration to weak haptics.

Sony needs to focus on AAA games, I would rather have more exclusives on PS5, I look at PS6 and we're going to blame PS5 & SONY for focusing on PC. I think that will be PS5's flaw, it reminds me of Xbox One being fixated on TV, Kinect etc.

Sony needs aggressive exclusives to PS5 only, GT8 would be a great start, Ratchet and Clank 2, Spider-Man 4, Socom remastered, Horizon 3 would impress people, Uncharted 6 but you play as Nathan Drakes daughter, Little big planet 4, Blodeborne 2 etc.

That would even make sense if they'd released no PC games at all. Lots of people on PC like to play specific games with a controller. There's a market for that. It's basically free money for Sony since they've done all the R&D and manufacturing stuff for the DualSense anyway.

Expensive and PC already had a much better options.

I mean good luck using a controller on a GAAS shooter!
I'm playing BF6 alternating between a mouse and a controller and it works great in both cases, I don't see what all the fuss is about. No idea why someone on PC could not play, say Helldivers 2, with a dualsense and have a great time.

So this controller support haptics and trigger feedback through wireless? That's the biggest issue with normal DS.

We have no idea if these ports were cancelled or postponed, we have nothing official and even the article say everything can change. HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 said he knows about Yotei port, IMO this will come soon or later.

Sony should have made an official dongle for PC. Maybe the PS6 controller? The PC controller market is a pretty lucrative revenue stream.

When was the last time a first party single player game released on PC? It's been over a year, it's widely reported everywhere. I think it's safe to say it's true, and of course Sony isn't going to come out and say they're done bringing single player titles to PC.

somehow pcfats always flew under the radar when it came to shills but they are just as lame

There won't be an official announcement.

But don't lie to yourself.

It is really not that hard man. Was Horizon Forbidden West a fun game? Sure. Is it worth buying a fucking console for? No.

Sony games are okay to buy on a steam sale.

You're at a disadvantage competitively.

Wasn't it always PC ready? I've used it on iPad and a Mac.

Probably just a matter of now including a usb-c cable, for a $20 premium or something stupid like that.

Kind of like if phone companies started to advertise that they have a "premium" package that include a AC wall charger.

woke this, woke that. Kids these generation like to make up fake boogeyman.

I miss the days when social media wasnt the reason you play video games.

Yeah people think Jason Schreier's article was making it factual. I personally believe while they may pull back on PC games, it would be for a certain period of time. And I don't even think Sony would ever make such an announcement like that anyway.

The margins on these things are insane so why would they stop selling it? They would sell it on other consoles too if they would allow it.
