Agarest Senki (XB360) announced!

I wonder why... is iF/Compile Hearts trying to milk the 3000 copies they're going to sell with this one?

If I remember correctly, all the iF games on 360 have sold under 10k, so what's the point?

Game no one cares about gets ported to system no one cares about in Japan. This is genius!

I have no idea what this game is but this is the result of me googling the name.

It's a rather odd move to bring "Agarest Senki" to the 360. It probably would have made more sense to release "X Edge" on both PS3 and 360, when it's released this year.

I wonder what's next? "Megazone 23" for 360?

Maybe they saw that a few jrpgs are planned for the 360 and got excited.

Well, they definitely got TOO excited.

No i am being entirely serious. I didnt work the first time, but surely the 2nd time it simply has to work? Is that what you people are telling me.

Work? What are you going on about?

Some of you need to take a business course or something.

If the revenue they think they will gain > cost of porting and marketing, then that's all there is to it.

So do you know how much this port will cost?

for those wondering it's an rpg+dating sim... the game is divided in century and on each century you bang a chick and continue the game with the results

If on PS3 in Japan it sold barely 24k copies, what's the point of porting it on X360 with extra features? o_0

break even was 3000-4000 copies...that's probably why. they also made a decent chunk of money on DLC so they probably opted to go the scamco route even further than they did on PSN.

Ok fine, maybe it is a better game, though the sales numbers don't exactly prove it, nor have I been able to read any praise of it apart from you. What DLC did they offer?

Aside from that, I'm not sure if I'll buy the game unless I find it for half the retail price or something online, I dislike companies screwing the original fans with a superior port. And fact is, PS3 is losing exclusives, this is just another one on the list.

Considering IF games typically sell well under 9000~10k copies, it was a success for them. I doubt you'll find any significant reviews in English since it was a niche game over in Japan. Yahoo games Japan's peer reviews and quite a lot of posts on 2ch were quite happy with it (and still has a pretty solid following).

I believe...5 or 6 stat packs were offered for free (ie, experience and what not) and a 7~9 stat packs were offered for a price. 5 additional dungeons were free. Some harder to obtain weapons were free, and DLC exclusive weapons with pretty insane stats were offered for a fee. Also, a crap ton of for-fee themes for PS3 as well (over 10 of them i think, at 300yen a pop).

To this date, it's pretty hard to find this game in Japan at half off..occaisionally, but I've usually seen it hover at around 4000~5700yen, used. Kinda sucks it went to 360, but additional content, atleast for me, doesn't interest me too much..the game itself is capable of sustaining gameplay for a good 200+ hrs, depending on which route you take..an extra 30min-hr of content is a drop in the bucket which I probably wouldn't get to.

I think the game was fairly well regarded on 2ch

The demo seemed decent enough. I mean, I would mainly play the game for the ADV stuff ^^

But, you know, niche games don't really sell well. I mean, that wouldn't even make sense.

Trolls (i think?) are spamming the agarest over on 2ch now saying they're going to sell their PS3's to get a 360 and the 360 version lol.

Though, I wonder if this is going to become an industry norm. Release on one console, get user opinion, rerelease on another console 6mon~1yr later with improvements...

Trusty Bell/Eternal Sonata (360->PS3)
Idolmaster (360->PSP)

have already done it...

So pretty much the game made money and seeing the x360 market size is increasing they decided to try and sell a few more by porting it on the x360 and giving the finger the original fans... oh well, they're here to make money afterall.

that's how i would see this, yes, though IF/Compileheart screwed over their own sales of X Edge now lol (going from what...10k copies sold to 5000 now?)

Wait, how did they screw themselves with X Edge?

A not so insignificant number of people would rather get a remake/complete version than a "half-assed version" earlier. Compile Heart/IF rereleasing a "more complete" version of Agarest for 360 brings into question whether X Edge will be ported with additional content to 360, eventually, or not.

How pissed off are the japanese fans anyways? Over the port? I suppose for niche titles not screwing your fan base is important I suppose? (I have no idea, I can't read 2ch,etc.).

Ok, I understand your argument. I wasn't sure if you were referring to something else or not.

Maybe they think the otaku userbase is greater on the 360. I certainly didn't expect this from CompileHeart. Get rid of the SPRG part and it's a day one!

Wrong. The PSP game is not a port, it's a whole new series. They're utilizing the portability of the PSP console in this case.

uh...
remove duo/trio unit solo play and move to adhoc (i thought i read the latter somewhere)
add story mode
remainder of the gameplay is more or less the same...not really a "new series"

idolm@ster -> idolm@ster L4U is more along the lines of a "new series"...same characters but going from sim with rhythm game aspects to no sim, just rhythm game...

Toss semantics all you want. It's not a port of the 360 game like you're implying. It's a new portable version of the game in the franchise worked for the PSP. Like how Ninja Gaiden got a DS game.

Plus the 360 one was a port from the arcade version right?
More like total remake + content.
