Mr. D: Anderson says all the best scenes in 'AvP' have been cut?

He did?? Really!? That's...fairly unbelievable. I've got several drafts of his script from over the last year or so, including the last few shooting drafts, and...he said that? What "best scenes"? Pretty much what he wrote in the script's up there. The only major thing of any consequence I'm flashing on is a daft scene where the Predator strips out the Alien's brain and plays chicken-claw with it. There's a peachy coffee table book of the A.D.I. effects work that I picked up at the Comicon, and there's some pics of that in there. It's not like Anderson wrote a lot of fight scenes in his thing to begin with. And I don't think either of the opening scenes were ever filmed? There's some dialog that's been trimmed, sure, but...?

Mr. D: Anderson insists if we'd seen the "real film", it explained away the alien's growth through the machine the Predators built to accommodate the Queen, pumping her full of accelerative hormones.

Well, that's...enlightening. I have no idea where he's getting that from. It's not mentioned in any line of dialog, or even scene description, in any of his drafts I've read. Unfortunately, this particular horse has bolted, so it's pointless trying to close the stable door now.

You know, I once asked an executive behind Anderson's "Event Horizon" what the longer cut of that was like, because I actually liked some stuff in it, and he told me flatly there wasn't one. So, a longer "A vs P" cut? I'd certainly be very curious....

ahahahhahaha, what else is there to say

I was actually thinking of making an official Paul Anderson hate thread..............

God, this guy is the bane of ALL geeks. First, he ruins Resident Evil. Next, he ruins what could have possibly become the coolest geek movie ever......

So we are taking the word of a guy who has a coffee table book of AVP GFX, has read a leaked copy of the current script, and is in no other way associated with the film or its production besides having written a 1st draft script for AVP in 1991, over the director of the film?

I contemplated swallowing my tongue during that turd of a movie. I recall screaming out "WHY!?" several times during the more rediculous scenes. (No joke) And I whimpered quite loudly when the end credit rolled.... I felt cheated, AND I saw it for free.

Beyond shit/10

Sounds like normal goings on for someone GAF already has a hate-on for.

Uh, idiot, that's the fucking writer of the original draft.

How involved was he with the final draft that ended up being the film? How many drafts/rewrites were there in between? Because I'm reading the full interview and it doesn't seem like he was much involved in the project in its final form... so I'm wondering how he'd have access to all of the information on the final to film version.

It says Briggs sold his draft to FOX in the early 90s and met with Paul's production people in 2000/2001. And he is privvy to Paul's drafts.

Even if he is not involved with the final product, there were obvious legal entanglements and knowing everyone in production, you think he's lying about getting shooting drafts? C'mon.

The script is the same but on director's cut, the camera will be steady enough to actually see what the fuck is going on 80% of the film.

Lying? I don't believe I've said that anywhere... I do always find it interesting to read interviews from people whose drafts of movies DON'T get selected as the final movie... I'm always leery of ulterior motives for negative interviews regarding... other drafts... regardless of how I actually feel about the final film version.

Zing!

I feel bad that the WGA arbitration didn't go Briggs' way, though. I'm not sure if putting his name on this piece of shit is a good thing anyway.

But he says his draft was used for the final movie and - hell! - they went to arbitration about it. Of course he is going to have access to Paul's drafts.

Another thing, is contrary to what you said, he's not negative regarding Paul's drafts. He was just saying that he got screwed, the final film sucked and that Paul's Director's Cut doesn't exist.

This is also not the first time Anderson has used something as an excuse why his movie sucked.

I'm not going to get in to a large pissing match about this... but if he comes out of the movie disappointed in what was on the screen and what was on the screen was Paul's vision, then that says to me he was disappointed in Paul's version.

At this point it's neither here nor there Anderson haters will continue to hate him the status quo has been maintained... all is right in the world. ;)

But he never said he didn't like Paul's draft. You're putting words in his mouth to make it sound like he has a vendetta against him or something. That's crazy.

So what if he was disappointed with the movie? So was practically 90% of the Earth's population.

How am I putting words in his mouth? Did I say he had anything against Paul himself? No. He saw the movie, he came out disappointed, the version of the movie wasn't his verison or vision of the movie. Are the two related? Not necessarily, lots of people were. Is it possible they are related? Yes. Look you have my permission to continue to hate Paul. I just don't consider Briggs to be a non-bias party.

If you backpeddle out of this by saying you mean Paul's film by "other drafts", I will send Ray Lewis to sodomize you in your sleep.

I'm seriously not backpedaling but maybe I'm missing something in the inteview. Briggs draft was not the actual script right? I mean there were changes made between what Briggs wrote and what ended up on the screen right? Ok maybe I'm using the wrong word in saying draft... Briggs draft was the basis for the script, but it was not the script top to bottom.

That's a bit of contention. Paul Anderson would have you believe that he, in the middle of the night, had an epiphany and wrote the greatest story ever told -- Aliens vs Predators. All by himself. Because he is a genius.

Briggs said Anderson took things from his draft, which was the first one done and the one optioned by FOX from the very beginning and went to arbitration with a few other writers to get credit where credit was due.

Gotcha... oh well there's always the first Mortal Kombat. ;)

Mortal Kombat has aged pretty badly, but I thought it was pretty cool as a kid.

I think these reports are probably true, even coming from Briggs. Anderson always has an excuse for everything. He also has a reputation in Hollywood for being a slick bastard.

The only part I think has aged badly are the Ninja's uniforms... then again I thought they looked pretty shitty even back then.

Well this isn't the first time I've heard that... so if you hear something long enough... you start to think there's at least a kernel of truth to it. ;)

I saw this movie last night because I simply could not believe a movie with an Alien and a Predator in the same shot could be bad. I want my $10.00 back. Hell, give me it back and I'll donate it to charity. Paul Anderson should be run out of town.
