Serious question I've never fully understood--why are voter ID laws bad? Other than, maybe the 26th amendment which states that it can't be denied for failing to pay a tax (imo getting an ID, for free or paid, is not a tax, but if that is where your issue lies, fair enough), there doesn't seem to be anything in the constitution about it. It's not exactly hard to get an ID, and it's not expensive. Let's not pretend these are incredibly difficult things to obtain, I mean think of how many idiot 16 year olds get licenses every single day, is it so hard to believe a grown adult shouldn't have a problem?
The source posted in op only talks about satellite county license issuers (the offices themselves are NOT closing), but the budget cuts are more extensive than just that, a lot of things are getting cut as a result, state parks, campgrounds, warehouses, armories, etc. And the thing is that county examiners traveled to these satellite locations during the week from county offices, and now they won't be traveling there because of the cuts. So you'll still have all the main county offices themselves. Furthermore, these offices made up about 5% of license transactions, and they will still offer renewals (which can also be done online). Renewals are increasing in price, but to $36.25 for four years, hardly breaking the bank, is it?
So idk. I've never really seen the problem with getting IDs (though maybe the principle of requiring them is wrong?).
