I picked up Alien Hominid at TrU today with some birthday cash - YAY! But I'm kind of lusting after Neo Contra. To support the small guy, or to support the glorious return of Contra? I'm torn.

I supported both, and even though I never opened my Neo Contra (release copy BTW), I vote against Alien Homind.

Neo Contra is simply a horrible game. I even enjoyed the bad PS1 Contras more than this. Now if we are talking about Shattered Soldier thats a very different story.

If I know you, TTOB, AH will frustrate the hell out of you. I've only played five minutes of Neo Contra, but I liked it. I'm also the most forgiving person on the planet when it comes to games, apparently, as I liked Shattered Soldier after all the shit it took. Be warned.

The last thing I want is a game that raises my blood pressure for no good reason. It's still sealed, so I can still exchange it for Neo Contra.

I had planned on purchasing both, but for some weird reason (suggestion of a trusted friend) I opted for Alien Hominid. :X

Shattered Soldier fucking ROCKED! I don't know what people are smoking - having lived through those awful Euro-Contra games of last generation C:SS was the second coming of Gun Christ.

I still suck at it, but I appreciate it.

If you think C:SS rocked, AH will not fustrate the hell out of you. You'll get the same cheap deaths, then you remember movement patterns, then you almost beat enemy, then you rape enemy, then you find new enemy *Repeat.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

Before anything, I just have to remind everyone in this thread that there is no comparison to be done between Alien Hominid and Metal Slug. Metal Slug is clearly superior in every aspect, please keep that in mind. This message is the first and last mention of Metal Slug in this thread.

Excellent, so if I fucking hate Metal Slug - will I enjoy Alien Hominid?

"Fucking hate" is a bit strong. I just find Metal Slug to be horribly over rated, and the controls too sluggish and clunky for my liking. :X

Shattered Solider also scored bonus points for a BADICAL soundtrack. Oh holy shit guitar riffs and guns!

It is superior in every aspect. Doesn't mean Alien Hominid still cant be a fun game for only $20.

If thats how you feel then you lose with both games you brought up and should murder yourself right now. Or you could always do a classic like Astro Boy or Gunstar Heroes.

Yup, Alien Hominid is somewhat good. I love the art style, but the scrolling is mad choppy.

I didn't get to "test drive" enough of Astro Boy if you catch my drift, the big boss thing with the eyeball would go off the screen and never come back in my test version. Not to mention I don't own a GBA currently. I'm interested in the Micro for SSS though.

It had some neat concepts - but without playing more, I'm uncertain about my tolerance for it.

In terms of old school gaming - Metal Slug reminds me of a poor mans Contra. I tend to believe the large portion of the fanbase are just rabid SNK twats. It's not an awful game, but a far cry from the seminal piece of kit your average GAFot makes it out to be.

screw independent development! support competence and buy the grotesquely underrated neo contra! it's a great game if you can restrict yourself to one credit -- otherwise it's really easy to blow through. konami should've had the sense to ignore complaints about shattered soldier's difficulty...it's not as if neo contra's accessibility won it anything in the mainstream. :/
