All is not well in the land of goodcow's external drives...

Okay, so my usual setup is...

P4 3GHz, gig of RAM, CD-R, DVD-/+R, Raptor drive, 120GB WD IDE, 200GB Seagate IDE

In addition I have...
80GB WD (USB2)
200GB WD (firewire)
200GB Seagate (firewire)

Everything worked well in the land of goodcow.

My friend is shooting a film this month, and I'm editing it. So, he gave me the money to purchase two more Seagate 200GB external drives.

I had originally hooked them up this weekend for the first time to transfer footage while cleaning and running errands.

When the two new drives were plugged in, via USB2: [along with the other three external drives]
- hit power
- gets up to processor
- processor is listed as Inte (not even an l...)
- it hangs

The drives were on a different power strip altogether, as they would be off when not editing his film to save electricity.

So, at first, I thought it was a power related issue, like maybe I was drawing too much current.

Today, I used an extension cord and plugged the drives via the second power strip into another outlet.

And........ nothing. The two drives just won't mount. I tried just swapping cables from my Seagate 200GB drive to one of the other two new ones while the system was on, and again, nothing.

Briefly, Windows did mention something about finding and installing new hardware, but disk management couldn't find the drive to partition. (though safely remove showed some unpartitoned disk)

I'm at a loss... I guess my next step is contacting Seagate, but maybe somebody here has a suggestion. The two drives WERE purchased from the same order, but what're the odds of them both being bad?

I'm also going to bed soon, so I might not respond for a while.
