Nothing happened. They are very open with it, they wanted to sell them because they don't believe they will have a marketable product in the next decade. And now they sold them.

It's also good for Japan, because they've been losing the high-tech sector to Korea and China. This might give them an edge in a potential emerging market.

Maybe Patlabor will be real in 20 years.

Do I sound super-nationalistic if I hate how much of our future innovations and infrastructure we're selling to foreign companies, because I don't want to.

But man SoftBank is really on fire lately

Japan is firmly in our sphere of influence, and SK and China pretty much kicked them out of the high tech sector.

Softbank is their best hope to get them back in to the game.

Japan just needs to start a large scale robot fighting league and challenge other countries around the world (and yes I realize this is sort of happening).
