Sounds good, man! Let me know if you want some constructive criticism. I love giving unsolicited advice but figured I'd offer before doing so this time lol
yeah sure because any ableton work has not been done.. this is a toy synth going into a field cap!

Well, shoot, in that case, you're probably way ahead of me on what to add. Are you going to add some drums? Do you have any finished tracks to listen to?

The pocket operators are fun for grabbing one and putting some ideas down for the sake of it, but yes, I tried connecting them all together and they sound terrible and aren't great for putting together a real song.

Similarly with the OP-1, honestly the workflow is annoying and all the time spent learning it is better spent on something like a Push 2. But some people. have been inspired by it, and it's easy enough to throw in a backpack.

well said, better then a toy. There is still nothing like it. Have you tried the elektron way ? Digitakt/digitone/syntact? I am on the verge off changing my mind. Any gear advice or personal tips?

Elektron looks like too much work for me. Tons of menu diving and memorization, may as well use a Push 2, which is more intuitive and has the power of your laptop. This stuff is really arbitrary for people who don't like the idea of a laptop being in the picture, but a laptop is by far the best device for electronic music creation.

When I actually need to make a track for a creative project, I inevitably grab whatever midi controller is nearby and load up Ableton. There are a few things I wouldn't want to part with probably, like my Moog Grandmother, but it's still mostly a novelty at the end of the day, very limited, and purely optional.

Either way, less is more. Buying new gear is usually a way to avoid putting real work in on what you have, because putting the time in is difficult and not immediately gratifying. Keep the collection small and useful.

A $99 midi controller + a DAW is enough to write almost anything.

We'll need to see what shirt or jumper you are wearing before passing judgement on your Hipster-ness. Also what beverages do you consume? Do you just have to tell people about your latest concoction?

you'd think Detroit would have hipsters. if not, only a matter of time until Detroit gets gentrified and the hipsters begin to flock there in droves

Hamtramck used to. Also Royal Oak and Ann Arbor... Ferndale, etc

Idk I've fully accepted my social irrelevance years ago and broke free of my hipsterdom

Unless watching Buffy DVDs, eating sardines, listening to Deftones, and driving a Volkswagen makes me a hipster.

Actually don't answer that

speaking of hipsters, I watched King of the Hill episode "Lady of Gentrification" the other night. it's pretty amazing, you should def check it out.

If you want a more organic feel I would suggest having a look at some ROLI products - the Equator 2 VST you get bundled in with it I think is fantastic (and the old FXpansion synths Cypher and Strobe work well with it too). It won't neccasarily replace standard synth keys as it's a little tricky to manage at first, but its well worth experimenting with...
