How can people purchase product at a place with horrible customer service and a URL name that makes no sense? AMAZON? Who buys stuff in the AMAZON?

DOWN WITH AMAZON! UP WITH BUY.COM!

FYI, they picked Amazon.com because back then search directories were alphabatized, and not based on popularity, and they wanted to be at the top of the list. They also considered Abracadabra.com, but settled on Amazon.com because the Amazon is the biggest river.

You'll also notice the arrow drwan from the A to the Z in the site's logo, to imply that they carry everything from A to Z.

wikipedia to the rescue!

It has also been claimed that the word comes from Abraxas, a Gnostic word for God (the source of 365 emanations, apparently the Greek letters for Abraxas add up to 365 when deciphered according to numerological methods). It has also been claimed to come from Abracalan (or Aracalan), said to have been both a Syrian god and a Jewish magical symbol.

Buying from Abra...whatever puts you closer to God, I guess
