So I just tried to add Civ 5 to steam and put in the code then it said it couldn't download it because the servers were busy and it would be in my library to download later but it isn't there and it won't let me use the code now.
Edit: but it is listed on my Licenses so how the hell do i get it?

thanks. steam only lists it as civ5 and not goty in my library. will this be a problem?
Looks like it is a server issue. Game is showing up now but it still won't let me download it because the servers are too busy:

I have no idea how Mac/Windows works on Steam, but if that's true then...
That's how it works with Steamplay titles, you get both the Windows and Mac version. Haven't heard of any Steamplay title where you would register a retail copy and only got one or the other.

I bought and dl'ed the goty. it says civ v listed in the library but it does have all the dlc. I tried going to the store and buy something individually and it said I already own it.

Make sure that in your steam library, next to the search box (above your games list) the drop down list is set to "all games"

I am having the same problem. It isn't showing in my library at all even when I select all games. I found through searching through my account and through my community page I had the license to the GOTY but it says I own CIv 5 vanilla but I can't even seem to download that.

My Civ5 redeemed via the Amazon key doesn't show GOTY either in my games list but when I right click on it and choose View Downloadable Content it shows I have all of the DLC:
That's odd. Does the DLC show up in game though?
It's only 11% downloaded, will be awhile before I can check to know for sure. (my DSL isnt' too speedy)
