Grabbed the Deus EX: HR Augmented Edition deal (I'm glad it was redeemable on Steam) and saw the 4.99$ deal for Dungeon Siege 3. Is the game any good?

It is decent. It's kind of the opposite of all other Obsidian games - the tech is actually very stable, runs well, and looks good at 1080p, but the story, characters, and world are all very uninspired. Every once in awhile their brilliance does shine through though.

The co-op is very poorly implemented and I wouldn't recommend playing it with kb/m, gamepad works great.

It is in the end an entirely competent console dungeon crawler with lots of loot. If you like games like Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance and Champions of Norath then you'll probably like this game.

I think it's a great deal for $5, and there's some DLC out now that went on sale earlier this year and will probably do so again on Steam.

Op updated with next weeks deals and digital deal vote winner.

Psychonauts - $1.99 (Sunday only) - $3.99 (Monday - Saturday)

Someone told me a week or two ago Amazon had Diablo 3 for $10 off. I just put my pre-order in a few days ago and missed out on the discount. Any chance of getting that discount or did i miss the boat? why have a pre-order on discount for only a week... i don't remembe r them doing this before for a preorder

I think that was newegg. That's were I preordered mine for $50.

Every time Darksiders is on sale, I put it in my cart, but manage to never pull the trigger as I always come to the conclusion that I'd never put in the time to play it..maybe this will finally be the week

How long will the Darksiders deal last?

The deal lasts through the end of the day on Monday :)...get it Gully!

Is Stacking steamworks?

Yes all the Double Fine games we carry are!. If I were you I'd drop the extra $1.50 and get the "Oh So Fine" Bundle.

Cheers,
Tony

Still can't believe I got Dragon Age Ultimate, and Dragon Age 2 for $10. I was looking at games on amazon today and saw them at their regular price. Not even normal Dragon age can beat that price.

I have no Double Fine games, never played one, I might get the pack.

Alright, we're trying something new if you like it let me know (and tell your friends :) ).

We've recently put up Preorders for "A Game of Thrones" and we're letting our customers choose between Steam and non-steam (ActControl in this case):

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00806YCIC/?tag=neogaf0e-20 - Steam Version
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ZT4URI/?tag=neogaf0e-20 - ActControl Version

In both cases customers will get a $10 GC (good for use on most products on Amazon.com not just video games).

Cheers,
Tony

hopefully we get some reviews before release; I'm on the fence about the game

Will you be able to share the results and conclusions of this experiment with us?

Grabbed Darksiders. The demo on PS3 way back when left me a bit cold, but for 4.99$ it's cheap enough.

Now to wait next week for Costume Quest.

Question for Tony, don't know if you can answer. I want to get at least 3 copies of Psychonauts tomororow. One for me and two friends. Will Amazon show the three purchases with Steam ID's for each or does that still not work?

Any help on this would be great.

I've bought 3 different copies of SHOGUN 2:Total War on the same Amazon account and gotten three different Steam keys that were used on different Steam accounts.

In general it should work, but if you are aware of a problem specific to psychonauts ignore me.

Soundtrack's pretty good. I'd get it just for that.

Too bad it only has half the tracks compared to the retail version - just bought the Augmented edition and there's only 12 of the 25 tracks of the retail version included. Very annoying when they do that. Still, add-on stuff well worth the extra buck for the augmented version as a whole.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I had heard of some people buying multiple downloads of the same game and only getting one key. Just wanted to make sure it I could purchase 3 keys and still get them all. Thanks!

Really? That's pretty messed up of them. The other extras aren't really all that worthwhile (or maybe I'm just pandered from TW2 stuff), either.

Hey I got an error message the first time I tried to preorder the game, so I tried again. Now it shows up twice in my orders. Will I somehow be charged twice? If so, how do I cancel one of those digital preorders? The only option available is "Go To My Games Library".

Will you be able to share the results and conclusions of this experiment with us?

I won't be able to share specific data but I'll be able to say "yes it made sense for us to to do this and we'll likely try to do it more in the future".

Each purchase gives you a unique key. I don't know why they wouldn't work.

I've bought extra keys from Amazon to gift to people and it's worked flawlessly.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I had heard of some people buying multiple downloads of the same game and only getting one key. Just wanted to make sure it I could purchase 3 keys and still get them all. Thanks!

Just to confirm, yes if you buy the game multiple times we'll just keep giving you a new line item with a different key each time, you can then send this key to friends as a gift. My brother receives virtually all of his bday/holiday presents in this fashion.

There should be a hyperlink in your games and software library next to each preorder that says "cancel pre-order" do you not see this?

Let me know so I can try and help you further if you don't.

Cheers,
Tony

Why would anyone prefer non Steam?

No need to use the Steam client and thus no issues when having no online connection.

Btw., is it it really THIS easy to use the Amazon download service from outside the US? :D
Edit: Apparently it is, now I downloaded the DF bundle.

Why would anyone prefer non Steam?

If the option is no-DRM or Steam I would chosoe no DRM every time. Why would I want to limit my ability to play my games? In this case however, the option appears to be one kind of DRM I've never heard of vs. Steam, and in that case I'd choose Steam. They devil you know, etc. etc.

Oh so fine bundle is a really amazing deal. Stacking is still a little too expensive for me, but if I didn't already have CQ and Psychonauts I'd pick the bundle up in a heart beat.

Without getting into specifics, will you at least be able to tell us whether more people preferred the Steam or non Steam version?

I'll have to figure out exactly what I can share so I'm not 100% sure yet, stay tuned.

Hey there,

Good questions on the Steam vs. Non-steam vs. DRM free.

To answer your questions/address the comments regarding why someone would choose a Non-Steam game that still had another form of DRM:

You have to remember that you all are pretty hard hardcore gamers, this is an easy statement to make given that you're posting on 'Gaf. Amazon has a customer base larger than some countries, this means that a ton of our customers have absolutely no interest in the benefits Steam as a platform has to offer, they simply see it as another program they have to run in order to play their games.

Many of these customers are VERY familiar with the concept of using a CD Key to activate a product though, given that this has been standard practice since at least the early '90s.

These customers don't want to install something they have to click on to load every time they want to play their game, they don't care about cheevos, don't want multiplayer or cloud saves. They just want to put in their "CD Key" and start playing.

We want to be able to offer these customers full selection, but in cases like this there is no DRM free solution, so we're offering them the next best thing,

Hope this helps add some perspective, let me know if you have further questions :).

Cheers,
Tony

So amazon doesn't mind if someone buys a digital game with a bogus US address as long as they can pay?

Why would anyone prefer non Steam?

Some people just find it to be less of a hassle I guess. Personally I get burned every time I handle a game that doesn't register on Steam. Whether it's Amazon's downloader that took 9 hours to download mass effect 1 for me only to corrupt at the end and have no way of fixing itself (like steam's verify integrity feature), or Origin having a number of errors and customer service snafus.

I think for most of the people Tony is referring to, if they were educated on the features of Steam then they'd prefer it too. It's easy to forget how relatively small time regular PC gaming still is and how relatively unknown Steam still is. I know that when I come across a new program I'm very hesitant to use it unless I find a lot of people say it's good and it's ok to use.

I hate myself, I really do. Just bought Psychonauts and Costume Quest on Amazon without realizing you could get the bundle with Stacking for cheaper. Now I know it's still a bargain at $7.50 but I'll probably wait in the future for a better deal now. SHIT I WANTED THAT GAME! :P

Exactly, product education around DRM solutions is definitely not something we have the bandwidth or inclination to engage in though, can you imagine how rage-filled you'd be if you called/emailed/chatted with a company to complain about something and their response was "oh no, you don't understand, let me tell you why you really do want this feature".

Instead we're just going to offer both and let customers vote with their wallets.

Cheers,
Tony

Yeah I don't expect other companies to do it anyway. Besides what you mentioned, it's not in your best interest to recommend a game that uses a rival platform as it's basically free advertising at east for Steam. I don't know if they get any royalties or their normal 30% for those games being sold elsewhere but it's a trojan horse at the very least.

I was mainly saying it's up to gamers to educate people who have questions. Because even though I'm a core gamer I'm still pretty new at PC gaming and I know how much of a hassle it can be to someone who doesn't want to deal with PC-related problems and more importantly to someone who doesn't necessarily know how to fix them.

I'm all for what you guys are doing though, PC gaming is about choices. As long as I'm always offered a Steam choice then I won't be complaining at all.
