My friend will not buy a 4K TV for some reason because he thinks they're too much. He has a PS5 and a 13 year old 1080p TV. Has anyone used any of these for gaming and movies?

If he wants a "cheap" 4k I would probably got with the TCL.....they have decent technology in them at a reasonable price.

Don't convince people to make a purchase they do not want to, that is not your job as a friend. Just let them enjoy their stuff the way they want to.

If my friend had a PS5 and a 1080p TV, it'd be my duty to beat him about the head and neck until such time as he came to his damned senses.

Sadly, I'd pressure him further until he bought a quality set. Friends don't let friends buy cheap shit.

TCL 5 or 6 series if you want the best bang for your buck, in that price range.

I have a friend who does this, but he says most of the 60fps modes in newer games drop the game to a resolution below 4k anyway, so it didn't matter. I couldn't argue otherwise because so far he's kind of right .

I just bought a 43" 4K 4 Series @ 239.99 CAD to replace my 2012 1080p Dynex. Yes I'm cheap but I don't think I'll get a better price point for the size I wanted so pulled the trigger begrudgingly.

I considered this one myself for a long time before I ultimately just said fuck it and decided to go with an expensive one and got a 55” Sony A80J for my bedroom.
