After 5 years of being stuck on an old Pentium 3 667 MHz and 192 MB RAM I decided it was about time to upgrade...well, to change the machine.
I was very skeptical about AMD and their capabilities although benchmarks showed it as an incredible machine, despite having less cache and operating frequence than the Prescotts. So at the end I bought an AMD 64 3200, 512 MB RAM DDR 400 and a NForce 3 mobo.
It might sound like shit but well...my budget was shit...About 400€. I kept the original 10 GB HD, and the old GF 2 MX...At least for now.
I didn't expect it to be very fast and overall I didn't expect to be surprised (at work I use a Northwood 2.6 GHz).

The thing is that yesterday I decided to do my OWN benchmarks, with things I really appreciate. Mainly computer emulators.

The first I tried was Viva Nonno. On my old PC it ran at 30 fps with a lot of drops. I started it and was wopped by constant 100 FPS. Not bad ;)

Then I proceeded to Chankast and choosed to play Jet Set Radio, of Course ;) Then I have to say I was very impressed because I was able to play it at the original 30 FPS without drops...WTF ??? Jet Set Radio ? On my PC ? Yay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have yet to do strong CPU dependant things such as encoding but so far this CPU has convinced me. Great performance :)

I don't play PC games...That's the reason why I kept so many years my old computer...But it was a bit embarassing to be constantly pressing ctrl+shift +esc in order to kill processes just to web surf while working.

When it comes to games on PC, my only concern is emulation :)

you can prolly OC it 300-500Mhz using aircooling.
Ive got the 3200+ with 1 meg cache running at 2350mhz here. (the 1megs run at 2000mhz stock)

Man you are doing yourself a disservice with that videocard/HDD combo.
