There are worse, more contagious viruses in the country at any given time. With the proper precautions, this is a non-issue.

This feels like a topic a a ron would sympathize with.

As long as they are properly brought into the country under quarantine and proper steps are taken then there is nothing to worry about.

Trust, its what will kill us all in the end.

being constantly asked to sign the same persons autograph over and over and over again then being ridiculed the one time he doesn't?

Since February there are about 1500 of confirmed cases of Ebola in three countries with a combined population of 22.000.000. Guys, don't look up how many people die of the flu every year.

Yes but for Ebola there is no cure. Flu is airborne but you can be cured by it with antibiotics. At this moment it's the biggest outbreak since the 70's. But i will post this because in the other thread it was explained why this is happening.

I think we need to clarify what's going on to understand why this wouldn't be as bad as in the US.

-Many in infected zones are not trusting of western doctors
-Many do not believe Ebola exists, believing it as a lie used by doctors to perform murders.
-Therefore many people sneak into quarantined areas to "free" infected patients, they then get infected themselves.
-Since many people do not believe the disease exists they don't exhibit the necessary caution needed to handle infected dead bodies.

So yeah there is a big concern. It doesn't have a chance in US or EU. Still it's terrfying how a virus like that can kill you in matter of time.

I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about. You don't treat a viral infection like the flu with antibiotics.

Flu is a virus. Antibiotics don't kill viruses. Antibiotics don't do shit to the flu. If a doctor has ever given you antibiotics for a flu, he was doing it to make you feel better mentally and is the kind of fraud that leads to antibiotic resistant bacteria.
It's just that flu has a way lower mortality rate. It still kills lots of people. There are also more effective drugs for managing its symptoms than there are for ebola.

I'm not really comfortable with the decision. Things go wrong in situations like these. Someone doesn't follow protocol, forgets a step, something. Why purposely introduce the risk in a country that currently has no cases?

That said, the decision is made, so I can only hope for the best and that everyone involved does his or her job exactly as directed, with no errors.

Lol exactly. Back on topic though, they'll be brought home, quarantined and examined every hour until they fall victim to the virus. Maybe it'll help us learn /something/.

If they do manage to survive (and survival is rare, but possible) we might actually be able to figure out something useful.

They're in the best place they can be with Emory's resources and proximity to the CDC -- 1-2 blocks. The hospital is only 1 of 4 in the country capable of caring for these patients. As an added bonus, the infected Dr.'s family lives in the area.

While I agree with these facts the situation is a little different. Those countries aren't highly mobile societies like Europe and the US are. Why even introduce the possibility of the risk?

It depends. How good are Cuba Gooding Jr's monkey-shooting skills holding up?

Wait, we don't have cures for any viruses?

I'm not being funny, if that's true I probably just learned something really well-known.

Viruses are tricky things. We have things to combat viruses and prevent them from causing further damage (anti-virals) but it is to control the symptoms until/if your body can rid itself from the virus.

Well. I firmly believe that proper measures will be in place to avoid the spread and its essential to help this people that have given up a lot (including potentially their lives) to help others in need, but then again my moral code compels me not to be a selfish paranoic asshole.

Because it doesn't matter if your society is highly mobile when it comes to Ebola. It's not airborne, kills you way too fast and has a hard time to advance in a society that has way higher hygiene standards and actually believes in western medicine.
