So I got the day off and starting binging the Peter Berg 'western' American Primeval, set in 1850's Utah with the Mormons, US cav, natives, and starry eyed pioneers clashing over basically dirt.
this is a hyper gritty story, no heroes, just survival. Outstanding cast of lots of bearded dudes, stoic women, noble(ish) savages, and lots of horses. It's mostly handheld close camera work much like Horizon part 1, which isn't quite my fav way to shoot westerns on what is otherwise a wide sweeping vista of what lots like virtually 100% on location stuff. But it gives that immediacy and intimacy that Berg has in a lot of his work. It moves fast, has plenty of action, has a -reasonably- balanced take on the various factions, strides that line between near fantastic encounters that must be allegory and a literal viewpoint into the West. It's not the best script ever but it's a well made show that keeps yah entertained.
Well worth watching, preferably by a warm fire with a glass of whisky at hand, as the show is so color desaturated and DRENCHED in snow and frost it will drop the ambient temp of your room by 10 degrees at least
