What the actual bollocks is that‽ Why the need to add the hunger games type crap to it? Normally a series about lesbians would be on my watch list but this time I think I'll pass.

I don't give a shit about anime or whatever this anime is...

But holy hell at their western "interpretations" of those characters :messenger_tears_of_joy:.

I don't know what a Kakegurui is but damn those comparison pics of the characters gave me a good laugh. Thanks Netflix.

Why do none of the characters match? The mask, the eye patch, everything can be done in live action yet they CHOSE to alter them. And isn't one blonde yet they made her a brunette? Some changes can be cool but the anime looks better and cooler

The vast majority of anime just doesn't work in live action.
I've yet to be convinced otherwise.

Add to ir the special Netflix touch and ...yeah

There are several blonde girls in it, 3 of them are pictured above, plus there's Meari, Yumeko's first victim turned partner in crime/potential love interest.

The one thing I'll give credit to this Netflix Western Live-Action adaptation of Kakegurui is that someone had enough sense (shame) to call it by a different name. That, and, at least the actress playing Yumeko Jabami actually looks the part. Ririka's mask being a basic facial mask gives me the impression that this was filmed during Covid. Midari and especially Runa got done dirty.

Unless this turns out to be shockingly good (not decent, not passable, not "dumb fun"), I can safely ignore this, rewatch the Kakegurui anime, read the manga, and watch that original live-action movie.

I watched the trailer. Sure is an adaptation.

Netflix altered Yumeko's character, adding some sanity to the character. Yumeko in the original doesn't care about anything except gambling and the high she experiences from it (all portrayed perfectly by the illustrious Sayori Hayami).

As a lot of people have mentioned, I'm not sure the aesthetic of Kakegurui is so easily transferable either. Femdom is wrapped tightly around the heart of this series, and you can't beat the expressiveness of comics and animation in that regard. Like usual a lot of the live-action costume designs adapted from a manga just come off as goofy.
