Publisher Microids and developer Microids Studio Paris have announced Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy, a remake of the 2001-released adventure game by Benoit Sokal. It will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in 2024.

Fantastic surprise, this game came out before the first Syberia and it was fantastic although with a few limitations. A full 3D remake is great news.

Never played Amerzone. However, I have bought and played all the Syberia games.

I will buy it because I love Sokal's games (rip)

They narrowed down the release window to October according to Gematsu:
The remake of Benoit Sokal's 1999-released adventure game Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam in October, publisher Microids and developer Microids Studio Paris announced.

They also shared a new story trailer:

I've always wanted to play the original, but it always felt a bit too oldschool for me, at least technically. This is a great chance.

Sokal story is as usual deeply nostalgic and touching.
To discover it with such beautiful presentation is a a treat everyone must give themselves.

Play the Demo and prepare to embark in a quest to bring back the White Birds in Amerzone – The Explorer's Legacy, available on April 24th.

Answer the call of exploration as you travel to the Amerzone, a forgotten Latin American country, to fulfill the last wishes of a late explorer. I really wanted to play Amerzone after playing Syberia.

And they after some years I finally played it.

And it was meh...
Definitely not on the level of Syberia.
I was totally disappointed.
But that's like my opinion, man.

The new trailer for Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy shows visual enhancements, reimagined environments, and modernized gameplay mechanics. Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy will be available on PS5 (PlayStation 5), Xbox Series X/S, and Steam on April 24, 2025.

Preordered the physical edition for 25€ on Amazon during the holidays, and I like what I see. Never played Amerzone, but I loved Syberia.

Really enjoy exploring old Catholic ruins in games. Amerzone reminds me of the San Juan monastery in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

There's a demo, at least on PSN, and it definitely made me want to buy. I'm just a little disappointed it's click to move and you can't just walk around freely. I can see wanting to make a faithful remake, but an option for modern controls would have been nice.

Never got around to playing this one. Not my favourite genre to say the least. But it oozes style and atmosphere so will definitely pick this up down the line.

Benoit Sokal was an amazing artist. Got most of his graphic novels. Love the kind of decrepit, thoughtful, depressing-noir vibe he went for.

It's a wonder he didn't turn me into a furry as the man knew how to ink up some curvy anthropomorphic animal ladies. 😁

Beware buying the original old game on Steam or GoG. The old original is not playable in a standalone format and requires additional files from a third party to modify for Windows.

Performance mode runs like dogshit even on PS5 Pro. It goes from around 60 to sub 30 FPS in a matter of seconds depending on where you look. Playing in resolution mode is fine, it's a slow game, but a bit of motion blur effect would have helped.

First hour looks promising. I'm having nostalgic adventure game feelings even though I've never played it before. But I've played Syberia 1/2 and I loved them.

looks interesting and i like adventure/puzzle games

If you liked the Syberia games, you'll definitely also like this. I love manually operating with machines like with Voralberg's in the original Syberia games. It has a very soothing atmosphere.

You can't walk freely here, you point the cursor in a specific direction and you watch the transition. It feels exactly like the old FMV-based 1st person adventure games like Ripper or the Journeyman Project games which I'm a fan of. Be also prepared to read a lot of documents.

Audio is also really good. Music is great and even ambient sounds are wonderfully recreated. If you play on consoles (PS5 Pro in my case), just go with the Resolution mode, don't even bother with the Performance mode.

Syberia 1 and 2 were some of the first adventure games I ever played, and I enjoyed them a lot, so fuck it, I just ordered the Amerzone physical LE for PS5.

Also, the limited edition looks similar to Syberia The World Before, with the mini art book acting as a holder for the game disc, which is really cool!

Got this as well but it will stay in the backlog for a while, I played the original in 1999 on PC before Syberia came out and it was a great adventure game for the time, here they did a significant job remaking all the environments in full 3D.

Yes I can confirm Syberia TWB and Amerzone have the exact same format for physical edition. Both games are developed by Microids Paris and published by Microids. I have other physical games published by Microids - Beyond a Steel Sky, Little Big Adventure Remake and Empire of the Ants - but they have all different formats.

I'm looking forward to a Syberia 1+2 remake, maybe for the 25th anniversary in 2027? Amerzone is a fantastic remake, and with Syberia TWB too, Microids Paris have gained my respect.

12 hours to complete this wonderful experience, at the highest difficult with no hints. I loved every single bit of it.

This is going to be one of the most overslept games ever. I won't leave a detailed review for you, I say fuck it, just buy and play this goddamn game! But if you need to ask something, sure let me know.

Few more (spoiler-ish) screens
