Amiibo Thread 3 | Where release dates are made up and preorders don't matter!

I wasn't going to try for Rosalina, but I woke up early today and since I was up I decided to driver over to Target. I got there right when it opened and I saw a train of middle-aged males walking towards the electronics section, so I figured that was the Rosalina line. I was able to pick one up, but I had them swap the first one they handed me because it had a white stain on the dress. I guess Mario got a bit excited...

Just got back from my Target.

I got there around 7.50am. I parked on the side of the building and walked in the (front) side entrance. Employees were stocking various items throughout the store. I walk over to electronics and no one is there, no employees or customers. I finally find an employee after 5 minutes and ask about the Amiibo situation. He goes into the back to check.

By this time a couple of customers had come in too. Apparently the automated doors don't open until 8 on the dot so I was the lucky first in line since I was in the store first, haha.

Employee comes back with Rose and a bunch of other Amiibos. I wound up scoring:

- Rosalina (32 at the store)
- Sheik (4 at the store)
- Toon Link (4 at the store)
- Bowser (a bunch at the store)

Not a bad haul and it was incredibly fun. Mostly everyone there was socially awkward though, lmao.

Happy hunting, all.

SOS to amiibo GAF. There's a blizzard outside. I shoveled a foot of snow out of my driveway at 6:30 this morning and I might as well have not bothered. As badly as I want Rosalina, I'm not crazy enough to drive out in this. I'm going to call the Target and see if they possibly could put one on hold but I'm not holding my breath. If anyone gets extras, please put me down for one. :(

Edit: Okay, apparently I am crazy enough. Rosalina get.

Just got back from Target. What a shit show. They had MAYBE six in total. I was one of the first three there so I got one of them off the shelf. People behind me were pretty pissed until an employee came from out of back with a cart with about three more Rosalina's in it. A few more people got her but there were still a handful of dudes raging. This is worse than Skylanders.

Waiting in my car, a few other people pulled up including one guy next to me who is blaring some Mario Bros. dubstep remix. Oh my god and he is dressed up in a Mario costume. Wtfff

I had a surprisingly pleasant experience. Got to Target 15 minutes early and was 5th in line. When the doors opened, everyone walked calmly (in line) to the electronics section. The employee there said he could sell all of us two. No one complained. Everyone made their purchases and left like civilized people.

So Sheik is going to be a probleM in my area. My target only got 1, best buy got 2 but are preordered. So I'm a little concerned. I miss the early release. I'll update the document but if anyone is able to grab an extra sheik, I'll either trade or pay the cost plus shipping

Thanks!

Congrats guys on getting your Rosies hope all who went got one.As for me Target is over 30 miles away and no way to be there on a Sunday morning so the fight continues.

The difference between Toys R Us and Target was like night and day...

This is what happened to me at Toys R Us on Friday that I'm reposting from the other thread...

I think I have the biggest bullshit story of all.

I get there right at 9:30, a few minutes later someone walks up and jumps to the front of the line, seemingly to talk to a friend. 9:45 an employee/manager comes out to hand out tickets and the asshole who jumped to the front of the line claimed he was ahead of me despite not being in line correctly and admitting he was in the front. They only had 6 extra and I would have been the sixth except for this asshole and the employee/manger fucking believed him and gave him the last ticket. I argued with the manager and he didn't want to deal with it saying 'you two deal with it yourselves' fuck that and fuck both of them.

I wouldn't even have been pissed if they had just 5, no its that they had enough and I should have gotten one but the idiot manager just didn't want to deal with it or hand out the tickets correctly.

Fuck toys r us.

And in comparison I was second in line at Target, arrived at 7. At 7:40 the electronics manager came out and told everyone what was going on, he said they had not got it what they were suppose to but they still had 32 Rosalina's among others. Because of the shortage on a lot of them he said they would only be able to sell 2 per person, per day. Since I was there only for Rosalina I asked if I could buy 2 of the same one, one for a friend and he said that was perfectly fine, he passed out tickets with what we each specifically wanted and said we would ring everyone up in the order we were in at that point. He was very knowledgeable about everything and extremely nice to everyone, even coming back out and getting people who showed up after the fact tickets with what they wanted. It was handled extremely well and thankfully I got 2 of Rosalina, 1 for myself and 1 for a friend. As I was leaving they had easily 20+ people there and I'm sure a lot of them will be gone but at the very least it was handled better in every way compared to Toys R Us. It makes such a difference if the person who is doing this is organized and clearly cares about making sure people are getting taken care of.

Also I ran into several people who were there at the Toys R Us I was at on Friday and they were all saying how much BS it was and what I dealt with was clearly wrong, by the end I was even laughing and joking about the whole thing. Such a better experience.

Edit: Also don't believe stock checkers as of this morning, my store still said they didn't have any despite the 32 the manager said they had when they came out.

Reading all these stories makes me happy I didn't go out to get one of them. I got my shipment in yesterday of 1 Rosalina and it came in great shape. So I'm not gonna complain.

Glad mostly everyone got what they wanted. To those that didn't, hopefully the Amiigod's smile down upon thee and ship Target another batch.

My boo.

Still can't believe they only had 2 Sheik's. Also there was more than 40 people there by the time they opened, which was crazy. Amiibo madness is real.

That would almost make me want to hop back in the car and not be associated with the whole thing. :/ My wife was already giving me enough shit for getting up at 7am to go to Target for that purpose. When I texted her telling her there was a line....

I'll see if I can get her then.

Thanks man!

Just left Target! Due to a bit of snow, my plan to arrive 10 minutes before opening became a reality of arriving 10 minutes after. So there was no line out front by then.

Right when I walked in, I saw 2 women holding a total of 3 Rosalinas and a Toon Link. I smiled and told them that's why I was there and they told me I "better hurry up." We chuckled.....and then I walked back to electronics as fast as possible.

They weren't out on display, but rather under a counter. I saw the employee handing some to a man who had 3-4 each of Rosie/TL in a basket. My heart sank thinking he had them all, but thankfully not. Seems there was no limit per person. He was also friendly and we talked a bit about them. I got my 1 each of those 2. The only other new one they had was Bowser. IDK if they sold out of Sheik or didn't get it, I didn't think to ask.

I thought the 4 of us were the only ones who had been there, but apparently not. When I checked out in front the cashier said he had sold "a ton of those things this morning" which seems to imply even more people were in and out before I got there. So.....phew.

Really happy with Target :)

How fucking sad. I'm on overtime now and took my lunch break now and can't imagine how much my time and effort would be wasted to do this for profit.

One per customer and that's it...

Yeah, it's somewhat upsetting to know that there's a person like that in close proximity. Was hoping my location was somewhat quiet on that front. On the plus side, I did meet a couple of cool collectors/fans while waiting on line for the 20 minutes or so.

I didn't have the nerve to ask if anyone was a Gaffer...

My Target had 24 Rosalina's this morning and only about 8 folks waiting. All of us only wanted one each so all in all it went pretty great. I was last in line and they still had like 4 cases when I left.

Got my Rosalina! I arrived last in line, with 13 people ahead of me, though some were in pairs. It was a good cross-section of people buying these figures, too. Parents with their little kids, parents without their kids, and then 20- or 30-something Nintendo fans. It was a very orderly and calm walk to the electronics section once the store opened. We were implicitly limited to one figure each, so that's what I got.

Out of all of us, there was one jerk though. When we got to the electronics section, we were out of order and had to reform our line, and he actually threatened to fight this other guy over a very small dispute about the correct order. And the guy he threatened was there with his small daughter, so that was awkward. Luckily he didn't take the bait though and just shrugged him off.

Oh yeah, and then the jerk guy got back in line after buying his figures so he could try to get more. I didn't wait around for the conclusion but hopefully they didn't sell anymore to him. He could have been a scalper.

So that's my story. Overall it was a very fun experience and everyone except that one jerk was great and friendly.

Oh yeah, and something interesting I noticed a little while later was that some of the customers were walking out of the store with the actual shipping boxes that the figures arrived in. I can see the appeal to collecting even those, but that's a bit too excessive for me.

So, about 5 minutes to 8, one person decided to break the ice and go stand by the door. It was then that the other 7 or 8 cars in the parking lot's drivers and passengers went up to the door. When we got to the electronics section, they weren't out yet. A few moments later, an employee started pulling boxes up from behind the counter. Everyone who was in line got their Rosie and they also had some Bowsers, Toon Links and Shieks. Everyone asked for one Rosie until everyone in line hand theirs.

Much to my surprise, someone asked if they could get a second after the line had been served and the employee said it was ok. So a few people asked for another for a friend (well, at least they said that).

I was shocked at how civil and organized the affair was, especially after hearing about things like that fist fight over a Yoshi. Everyone in line was polite and waited their turn to speak up when the employee asked who was next. I don't know how late arrivals are going to fare, but I'm glad I was able to get one!

VICTORY!

I got to Target 12 mins before they opened and was the only person there. A guy with his kids and then a GS employee showed up a few mins later. They didn't have them set out, heh. Glad I didn't have to deal with any dashers or people trying to hoard. Got Rosalina, Toon Link, and Sheik. They had 4 of TL and Sheiky Baby.

I'm gonna keep my Hastings pre-order from yesterday for a pair of Sheiks for the heck of it, to see it get canceled. And if I get 'em, yay, I can help some gaffers out. Someone on CAG posted it a couple hours before it got posted here but that preorder page has stayed up so long i severely doubt I'll get them.

*goes back and reads posts!

This grown man ate shit rushing to get Rosalina. Face in floor, the whole deal. I love it.

Target had 4 out, I took one he grabbed the rest and was promptly shut down. I laughed loud enough for him to hear it.

Against my better judgement, I'm going out in this snow to get Rosalina! I'm not in Chicago, so I'm not BURIED, but it will still take a while to get there. They will be open, but hoping most people are smarter than me and stayed home.

Going to be leaving soon to go to my local target to see what I can get. It's a smaller town, so hoping I have no issues. That DCPI tracker thing shows no stock of Toon Link, Sheik, or Rosalina, so I am a little worried I will leave disappointed. But, it also shows none in the entire Denver metro, so maybe it's broken.

Nobody else here at this Target opens in 20. I called lastnight and they said they had stock however every stock checker says otherwise.
Stock checkers won't show. Either the target app says in stock or you call. Since you called then that number should be correct.

Where are them pictures?

Nintendo: Disappointing children one Amiibo at a time.

Seriously, I went to the Target near me -- was in line with a couple guys (one even had an employee put a figure under the counter with his name on it on Thursday) -- when we get in, nope, sorry we have none to sell. They're all reserved. Not one. Not Toon Link -- reserved. Not Rosalina -- reserved. Nothing.

I made it to another Target and they said they sold out in 5 minutes. And, I'm in a good size city ... it's just ridiculous.

Congrats to everyone who got them, but I'm going back to just getting Skylanders for my step-daughter. NOA is just so unbelievably mismanaged right now. Three waves and they couldn't figure this out?

At target right now- there's 4 sets of people here (4 guys with their gfs including me and my bf lol). Someone said the talked to them last night and they have 8. If everyone gets one we should be okay but we'll see.

Had an amiibro Target employee point me to another store a little north of Pittsburgh, and managed to grab a Rosalina 40 minutes after opening. Still have 7 left even! First store got 12, but this one got 32.

Left the Target in Dadeland Station (in Miami) a few minutes ago. They still had like 10 Rosalinas (got a total of 30ish by my count).

Got here 10 minutes early and there are 7 nerdy looking people like me already in line. I hope there are more Rosalina than this..

Not a Rosalina fan; sleeping in felt good. Sounds like most people are able to get one and it's generally going better than Lucario at TRU did. Hopefully those who couldn't snag one today will get one from a helpful GAFfer.
