Amiibo Thread 3 | Where release dates are made up and preorders don't matter!

I haven't really been keeping up with the thread. Is it time to panic if gamestop hasn't texted about in store shulk pre orders? I got a text about Sheik, but not Shulk.

I don't think it's time to panic. They may have just not be receiving him tomorrow at your store. Some aren't getting him until thursday/friday.

It really depends from store to store how well it's handled. From my experience with TRU with Lucario, tickets were handed out to those waiting in line for the number of figures available, so there wasn't any possibility of line jumpers or runners, and someone came out occasionally to let anyone who joined the line after all the tickets were handed out that all the extras were already claimed. Everyone in line was told that it was a limit of one and the figures were all behind the counters.

Good luck on getting Mega Man, and especially Ike. I was informed my TRU isn't getting any extra of Ike other than what they have pre-orders for.

That sounds great. I'd rather not be zooming towards electronics looking like I was trying to grab the last Turbo Man. Hopefully that system will be there on Friday. Ike would be the cherry on top but I'd be totally content with Mega Man.

Definitely going to pre-order Ness and Lucina for Wave 4. I can't imagine being able to find them with any ease unless things change.

Don't panic.

You store still has all week long to get him in. If you get worried just call and ask if they know what's up. I'm going after they get their deliveries tomorrow (to pick up Toon Link and Shiek) just in-case Shulk comes in tomorrow. I'm usually at work when they call.
 
I haven't gotten the text update (guess I didn't subscribe for it), but I did check by my local GS to see if they still had my pre-order on him, since he disappeared off of my pre-order list in the GS app. They did have it, but they hoping they receive him on Friday.

Shameless plug, if anyone can get an extra Shulk for me, I'd really appreciate it. If you're looking for Rosalina or Lucario, I will trade either one of them for him. I don't care about the region, just as long as he is boxed.

It sold out like three weeks after release. When people heard there was no restock in sight, all the customers who'd been holding out as well as a bunch of scalpers, pounced and bought what was left almost everywhere.

The downside of attempting to make amiibo for everybody is that Nintendo had to attempt a balancing act of supply and demand because retailers only put up with so many different varieties of a product (at least until it's been proven successful), and possibly also because factories demand production orders far in advance (though that is my speculation).

So far they've been really bad at it. Some people think they did it on purpose to drum up panicked shoppers that buy everything, but currently they are so far below what they could be selling that my money is still on poor planning.

They're making more marth sometime soon, do they do have the ability to poor figures back into print, it seems. Pray they do it for villager too.

I think Nintendo is testing the NA market to see if they could sell these for 20$ a pop. It's basically what a lot of people are paying when you factor in buying them from international sellers as well as NA retail shops online and paying for shipping, not even to mention the huge scalpers market and plenty regularly fetching 30-50 each on ebay.

That would be the shittiest thing to do. Unless the quality on the figures ramps up massively then they really can't charge more for them. The figures are very hit and miss and already people are swooping in to get them not because of their usefulness or purpose but because of theor scarcity. We don't know how much future implementation they'll have and some are more valuable than others in that respect.

At least with Disney Infinity you know you can use them all in at least one game and have a full experience with that character as well. With amiibo, some Smash character amiibo will only be used in that title and even then the implementation isn't as exciting as the DI business model... Plus Infinity figures generally look great across the line so you get value for money there alone.

It'll be really annoying if Nintendo raises the RRP more. They're great collectibles but they've had their fun with creating their false demand, we don't need taking advantage of more.
 
so what amiibos are coming out this weekend in the US besides shulk?

i got my text confirmation so i'm picking him up tomorrow afternoon. i wanna know what's out there besides him this week. might do another pick up.
 
Woke up to a message from Amazon informing me that my Sonic pre-order has shipped :) It's not Shulk, but I'm grateful it wasn't another cancellation message.

When I picked up my Wave 1 amiibo pre-orders from a local shop, I took them out to my car and counted them. I had 13 amiibos. I quickly noticed that I had two Villagers. I did the right thing and took the extra Villager back to the store but sometimes I wish I hadn't. Oh well. If it had been Gamestop or Best Buy or something like that, I probably would have kept him, but it was a small local store.
 
Megaman just shipped from Amazon and should be here by Friday. I am most excited about MM, not because he's my favorite character (that honor belongs to Lucina) but because he has one of my favorite sculpts out of the amiibo Smash line. From all the pics posted, MM looks amazing. I cannot wait.
 
bought Toon Link and Fox today aka nr. 5 and 6

Never thought ending up buying that much lol xD (Mega Man and Shulk on preorder)
but they look good on top of my speakers ^^

I was speaking tongue in cheek, and honestly, for what Amiibo's functionally offer, I think they are way over-priced at the moment. But at the same time, plenty of people have spent quite a bit a piece on these, and the ones I have ordered online, I've cringed when I've had to pay close to 20 for the ones I bought because of shipping.

I'd wager that most people collecting amiibo's aren't doing it for the functionality. I mean where else would we able to buy Punch Out or Fire Emblem(domestically) paraphernalia.

Very true. And did anyone notice that DK, Peach and Yoshi are 9.99 at some online places now? I saw them, or some combo of them, for that price on Best Buy, Gamestop, and Walmart's websites.

It's not looking good. I called a total of 6 GS yesterday afternoon, and they all said they weren't going to have any extras.
