Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

Posted a few times already but some were asking about how the button layout is with the new triggers are gonna be:

DET: How will you deal with the lack of that third shoulder button on the post-Amplitude DualShocks?

Lesser: We’re paying a lot of attention to it. I’ve played a lot of Amplitude on the PS3 using the DualShock 3 on our first-gen machine, and I found that it’s actually really playable as it is. It’s not as good as the DualShock 2, so I won’t pretend that it is, but there’s a couple of things we can do when we’re coding and designing for those controllers. For one thing, we have control over when that trigger activates, how it feels, and how responsive it is.

Another thing is that we can design our levels with that controller in mind. We haven’t gotten there yet, obviously, but I’d imagine we’re going to experiment with our patterns to just make it feel great on that controller. Maybe that means that we’re not going to change it at all, because after playing for 15 minutes you don’t even think about the old controllers any more. Or maybe we actually don’t put 16th notes at 150bpm on R2, we put them elsewhere. So there’s lots we can actually do to make that work fine.

Source (Great read and visuals)

Also says the game will be 60fps and they are aiming for 1080p

At the same time, they will gain new pledges from vita fence sitters, just like me. Several KS reached the Vita stretch goals, but people won't pledge if the stretch goal is at hand.

Most game Kickstarters meet stretch goals because a lot of people want the game. (and most likely not on whichever platform is going for a stretch goal at the time) This is not one of those Kickstarters.

An even more epic day.

So we need $175k in 57 hours
;_;

So weird to me never got used to playing with those but I got damn good at playing with the face buttons.

I think for the really hard stuff, a combination of the two allows you to go crazy fast. Not that I ever got THAT good. Still, you should definitely learn triggers.

Did you use your thumb for face buttons?? That sounds so difficult haha

lol no way.
Index-Middle-Ring on Square-Triangle-Circle respectively. Sort of felt like I was playing a tiny 3 note keyboard. lol

I am interested in trying the triggers now since so many here have sworn by it.

Triggers are absolutely the only way. I'm even used to putting my hand over top a controller for many games and I tried that for too long with Amplitude. Triggers are the only way.

I think somebody asked in this thread earlier (but I can't find the post/am too lazy and busy to look through the thread), but: yes, if funded and we make this game, we do have plans to put a demo on PSN for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It's definitely a game you have to play to "get," so we'd be crazy to not offer one.

This is really cool for people who never got to play the original (or if you're like me, played the demo of the original, but never played the full game). The idea of the game isn't easily explained or can be judged by watching a video of it online, you have to play it to get it (or not)

I was actually thinking about this last night, but it would be cool to see "Baseline" by Quarashi in the new version, though I doubt it'll happen

What happens if some of these pledges are fake and they don't hit their goal? I've not heard of what happens before if they can't take everyones money. Must be a logistical clusterfuck at that point.

seriously tempted by the $35 tier if a spot opens up

didn't realize it was limited when I got an email about it right before going to sleep last night >_<

edit: I only saw the subject line of the email

Accounts are charged when the time ends. Some people can and will issue chargebacks, but they'll still get the money from those who don't.

Looks like they're going to make it. I honestly didn't see that coming given the goal. Good on them and their fanbase.
I'm still a little bit pessimistic if this will make it. Now it's in the realm of "it's not completely out of the question, but we could, like, be left $50k short by the end." It could make it, maybe a few bands have been figuring out if they should donate 7500$ to maybe promote their band through the game and won't make their decision until the final 24-48 hours and a couple of those other higher tier stuff sells out, after which we would be that much closer to the goal. But in case no one pays for the higher tiers anymore, we'd basically either need 4000-8000 new backers to the 20-40$ tiers or everyone who has donated so far should raise their pledge by an average of (a little less than) 20$, or a more likely combination of both kind. That doesn't sound like it's 100% certainly happening.

I had a situation where my card didn't go through for the Broken Age one (used a card that I have to transfer money into online, forgot when the deadline was) and all it did was say "you have x days to make the purchase or your pledge will be cancelled". No comeuppance or anything. Hopefully all the pledges are legit regardless, I was just wondering if there had been a case that had only just crept over the line and then all the money didn't go through.

Harmonix, open another $35 spot or kiss your business goodbye.

Quit being a cheap bastard and kick in for $40. I promise it will be worth the money, just to not listen to me bitch and complain if it doesn't make it.

I've demanded that all 13 of my Twitter followers pledge. What else can one mod do?

If a pledge is withdrawn, that has to happen before the 24 hour cutoff. After that point, you can't withdraw a pledge if it sends the total below the target.

If a pledge simply isn't fulfilled, it doesn't affect the other pledges; Harmonix still gets the money from those. It does mean they need to deal with a deficit they may not have planned for, but they have the core budget intact.

The last day especially has made me much more optimistic, for sure. But the skepticism here is definitely healthy to keep in mind. The most telling thing that happened yesterday is that the project had its largest fundraising day yet, but the number of new backers is nowhere near that of the first day (and previous largest fundraising day), with 2,723 fewer backers.

That could mean a number of things: 1) a number of new backers, at very, very high pledge tiers. 2) Previous backers have upped their pledge (as demonstrated by a number of posters in this very thread).

The problem is that neither is a sign of a healthy kickstarter. Hopefully the last few days brings a rush of new backers, too.

Either way, this is definitely one of the most rollercoaster-like kickstarters I've ever paid attention to.

Yeah, at this point I'm mainly worried that this donation pace isn't sustainable, especially given the extremely high average pledge per backer. After the $35 tier ran out, the pace of donations slowed greatly.

The first day also had the cheaper $15 option taken by 1,000 backers and yesterday had the $35 option with 1,000 slots. There's no doubt the new backers is much lower than day one, but this can help explain part of the funding discrepancy. (I'd also imagine people were much more likely to pledge the lowest possible amount on day one before revisiting later on once everyone sees how the Kickstarter is doing.)

Oh yeah, absolutely. There are a lot of variables to consider with this project (and a lot of things we just can't account for without having direct access to the numbers).

I still think its fair to say that the lion's share of funds have come from people who had already backed upping their pledge and a smaller number of new backers pledging at higher levels.

Well, we're doing a 6 hour long livestream/telethon with an actual phone people can call us on to chat, so this is going to be a disaster. We'll also be playing a ton of Amplitude and maybe Karaoke Revolution. I'm not sure why, actually.

Starts at 12:00PM Eastern. http://www.twitch.tv/harmonixmusic

make sure to sound excited. last thing you want people to see is the lack of ENTHUSIASM good luck

won't be able to watch at work but i'll be there in spirit.

Ah excellent, thanks for that.

And people thought this was impossible cuz no PC version.

If I were Yoshida I would of already handed over the next 175K and said just get it done.
