Amplitude rocks, but I liked Frequency better.

Found Amplitude today. Its awesome, but I long for a lot of the tracks on frequency, as well as its more simplified presentation.

Anyone have any luck spotting this title? Finding amplitude was lucky enough.

There's plenty of this up in Canada. I saw it at Wal-Mart for $8.88 :/ Sad for such a great title.

I agree with you, Frequency is better. Better music (DJ Qbert!, Dub Pistols!), and better presentation...I like the tube-like structure better than the flat plain of Amplitude.

I bought Frequency but I can't say I liked it too much. Another GAF dud. I think I need to spend more time with it but it didn't immediately grab me

You're not alone in that. While I do appreciate the more elaborate presentation of Amplitude, they overdid it a bit.

My least favorite part of it is those stupid green combo arrows. Yes, it's great that I can see at a glance where I can continue my combo next, but I don't even want to think about how many times I've blown a combo because the stupid arrow was blocking my view of the upcoming notes until I'm right on top of them.

I dont care for Amplitude's flat presentation because it WAS harder to spot the next jump without the aide of a combo arrow. Frequency it was easy.

Yeah, that's one of the other things I couldn't stand about the flat layout. Sure, it felt more open, but if you were on the other side of the track, you simply couldn't see what you had to play if you wanted to try and jump over there quickly. In Frequency, you could just look at the "top" of the tunnel and see what was coming.

I own both games (and was the biggest Frequency fangirl on the forums), and I too like Frequency better. Amplitude seems like a game that would've come out BEFORE Frequency, as I have no idea why they abandoned the cylinder track for the flat one, it really hurts the game in multiple ways. Amplitude is still good fun, but Frequency is a friggin masterpiece.

I'm just a sucker for limited-use peripherals. My closet is full of 'em! Four bongos, two taikos, two GunCon2's, two GunCon's, DC Virtua On Twin Sticks, two sets of Sega Maracas, Steel Battalion and so forth and so on.

I picked up both of these games brand new at disgustingly cheap prices earlier this year (Amplitude: $5, Frequecy: $3), but I have yet to play either of them.

What are you waiting for then!!!?!?!?!?

Agreed. I'm not too fond of the music selection in Amplitude(for the same reason I won't play Donkey Konga 2).

But Frequency's tracks are worth listening to(or is it button-tapping to?).

I got Amplitude for $2 from that overstock sale a few months ago. Worth $2, but wasn't all that fun IMO. I'll take Gitaroo Man, Um Jammer, or even Donkey Konga over it any day.

How much better is Frequency? I always see it for real cheap at Gamestop, and EB.

These are both great games, but I prefer Amplitude. I actually prefer the flat layout and I find the Amplitude songs to be a lot of fun to play.

Frequency is one of my favorite PS2 games, but I need "Cool Baby" :)

Well, if you didn't like the basic gameplay of Amplitude, then you're not going to like Frequency, which has pretty much the same basic gameplay.

The big thing that puts both Freq and Amp above any other music game I've played (I haven't played many, but still...) is the fact that you're not playing the exact same thing every time you play a song. Sure, once you get good at the game you may prefer a set path through the song, but even then, a single mistake can put you on parts of the tracks you've never even seen before.

I think the both of 'em are better than any other rhythm games out there -- so much fun, and challenging without being overwhelming. I really like the new powerups and combo system in Amplitude, but the song list and flat track are not the best. It's kind of nice though that they're not clones of each other....each one sorta does its own thing and I'll play whatever I'm in the mood for.

What is Harmonix doing right now? Are they still stuck on those karaoke games?

i prefer Amplitude as well. Maybe its because i started with Amplitude before ever playing Frequency, but also because the music doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Im not a fan of the techno/electronic music in Frequency much, and i view the music more as "levels". I mean, im not a fan of Blink 182 at ALL, but fuck me if their song in Amp isn't goddamn insane on Brutal setting. Its like i zone out and don't even hear the music as a whole song anymore.

Guitar Hero for RedOctane. Will even come with its own guitar controller. Check out BuddyC's thread from last week. Sounds like Amp/Freq + Buttrock! I CAN'T WAIT!

I didn't know they made Eyetoy AntiGrav as well.....was that any fun? I've had an Eyetoy sitting around waiting to be used for quite a while.
