An ill-informed video card question

Keep the title in mind as I pose the following;

Do videocards have recommended system requirements?

I was lent a GeForce4 Ti 4600 and I've installed it using the appropriate driver on the nVidia site and my computer has been in a wonky mood ever since, typically hanging in between programs and taking its sweet ass time. It could be the result of any number of other variables that I'm well aware of, but is it possible my computer just can't keep up with the card?

I have a Pentium 4 with 1.8 Gigs and 768 MBs of ram.

A P4 1.8 GHz CPU should keep up with a Geforce 4 for the most part.

Sounds like you've got another problem.

Uninstall the driver completely. Reinstall the driver from your manufacturer's website.

If that doesn't work, it's probably too complex an issue for GAF to troubleshoot, since we don't have access to your computer. Shell out for the neighborhood 12-year old techie to fix it, or take it to a RELIABLE computer shop (NOT BEST BUY).
