There is no greater pain than acute illness

I've been ravaged by he most unholy viral infection for the past 6 days.

Fever, night sweats, unrelenting cough, and a complete cessation of appetite.

I'm a reasonably fit and healthy person and gym 3x a week and have a good diet. I have not been able to get out of my bed for this period and I have not had a single solid meal for 5 days.

Pain...

I haven't been sick since my last encounter with Covid over three years ago. Then I made the mistake of bragging about it up at work, and was immediately struck down with bronchitis a week ago.

Yeah, it sucks. I tried to tough it out but finally relented and went to a walk-in.

I've had COVID but it felt like child's play compared to this.

Any respiratory issue hits me like a Mack truck. I had pretty bad asthma as a kid, and I'm a smoker (aka retard).
Covid was worse with the flu like stuff, aches and pains, but this bronchitis was way worse in my chest, felt like I was gripped in a vice trying to breath.
Foreshadowing for my emphysema I suspect. I really need to quit smoking.

I had tripped into my staircase and landed on my side with my head into the drywall, knocked out two teeth. My side still hurts much after 8 months. Getting older sucks.

Dang that is no fun. I have a viral infection as well; no physical symptoms other than these damn red rings all over my ass and thigh, that they say will take months to go away. It has been an extremely bizarre experience and I'm glad I'm already married. In saying that, I still wouldn't trade places with you, having your ass look like a leopard is preferable to feeling like you're on the verge of death.

Sorry to hear, man.

I haven't been horribly ill since my first bout with covid, which put me down for a few days and had only a single night of "I've woken up from the sweat/fever - I'll move to the other side of the bed because that's better than changing the sheets again."

I've never had anything for close to a week. Feel better :(

When I was in my late 20s, a fit 6'5" 200 pounds I once got some awful infection that nearly killed me. A month later I weight 167 pounds. I legit did not eat solid food for that month.

Get well soon

There are those poor souls with chronic long term pain so it's relative

Rest and hot drinks and pain killers and tv

On the plus side I feel better today. Was given antibiotics 2 days ago. Nasty lower respiratory tract infection.

Appetite and energy levels are slowly returning. Able to actually work without feeling like complete death.

Antibiotics for a viral infection? Did they run a respiratory panel or somehow collect cultures?

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better, in any case.
Continued fever + crackles on exam.

I think it started as a viral illness followed with a superimposed bacterial infection.

My personal policy is not to take antibiotics unless absolutely necessary - my first course in more than 10 years.

I'm going back to the doc after I drop off the girls this morning. I've finished the med regimen they gave me, but I'm still feeling mighty crappy, I want to make sure this is nipped in the bud cause I have to work all weekend.
My advice to young people: don't get old. It takes forever to get over shit.
