TL;DR - 11/18

Seems like the combo of buyers getting return requests in and ModRetro nipping at Analogue's heels with the M64 lit a fire under their asses a bit. Now fingers crossed it was worth the wait

Here are the rest of the details

got an email this morning

per the email, 11/18 is the earliest itll ship;
11/30 is the latest

(emails says "all preorders will ship before December 1st")

I'm so curious to see how accurate it is to a real N64. Those remaining timing issues have been uncracked for decades.

Also curious to see if they are the only ones who managed it or if they end up using per-game hacks for the games that have timing issues, like Mister FPGA does, to achieve perfect compatibility.

If they did manage to 100% emulate the timings of the console, it will be massive.

I think I've just read the worst review ever. They actually complain about the power of the console, which is meant to play the games as accurately as possible. The Engadget reviewer basically wanted it to emulate the games in higher specs and gave it a lower review score smh.

Here's the best comment from powerincarnate:
I don't get the review. A review of the product should be judge by how well it achieves the purpose of the product. So, if you were reviewing a new console now that has the power/speed, pixilation and other issues of a os1/n64 era console then yes it is appropriate to give it negative scores when compared to other modern console. But this product is an alternative to emulation..as it is not actually emulating a console. It is using an fpga to achieve essentially perfect hardware functionality if the original console. Essentially preservation of the console for modern era do that you can even use you old cartridges (as opposed to ROMS) to play. For the goal that it set out for it did a fantastic job.

It's job was not to fix, upscale, add triple buffering or other software hacks to make the n64 to look more up-to-date. So again. Why an 80 score. It seems the negative points really is an indictment of ps1/n64 era graphics. Which we all agree and already know was not good and it was a transitionary console going from the beautiful pixels to very pixilated first generation 3D. But all this we knew already since 1996. There is a reason why you can remaster a PS2 era game such as FFXII to make it look good on modern hardware, while there is limited attempts to do this with ps1 era titles.

Waiting for mine to arrive, but I've been watching tons of reviews. Funny I haven't come across this one. So far, I'm pretty impressed with what the 3D is offering. Original mode toggle and then the plus modes, seems more than enough for the best of both worlds. Knock on wood, but seems Analogue may have knocked it out of the park and delivered more than expected.

They could have offered zero boosts, because as you pointed out - it's purpose is to be as close to the original experience as possible.

Did they pick on the controller for not being 3 pronged??

Another misinformed reviewer.

The device is out for a while now and still nobody is trying to test it's accuracy? What about all the known edge cases that need per-game hacks in everything other than the real N64 console as of now?

Does DK reach the vines? Is the Aligator in Blues Brothers beatable? Does Knife Edge run at the correct speed?

I asked in the Ares and Mister discord. I asked about Knife Edge someone said they will test it but still no clear answer yet. We still have no idea how accurate it is, only thing everyone says is it's "100% compatible" which doesn't say anything since Mister and pretty much all emulators are practically 100% compatible (with some hacks and per-game settings for the edge cases).

Anyone here with an Analog and those games willing to test maybe?

Analogue 3D may be delayed to Q4 2025...but its finally Q4 2025 and I have the Analogue 3D! So it's time for an in-depth Analogue 3D review! Was Analogue 3D worth it? and was it a good competitor against MiSTer FPGA? Let's find out! And don't worry I will do an Analogue 3D vs MiSTer FPGA comparison soon...and an Analogue 3D vs ModRetro M64 video when that hardware is available!

Note: overclock fix test firmware for Everdrives JUST started testing literally 20 min before vid goes live haha. I tested it quickly and I had better results but not perfect but its a WIP from Krikzz and we should all be thankful they are doing it in the first place!

I am giving them the benefit of doubt here: the initial console delay ran into this planned product release. Would have loved the option to switch my pre-order color choice.

They did release new colorways for the Pocket but that was several months after the pre-orders were shipped for that product.

And controllers to match of course:

The fuck people actually play retro games.
All we do is collect and play the first 5 minutes and put it away.

Waiting for the next retrobox to release.

Also i am willing to test said games for you if it contains the first 5 min

- The DK test is during the attract/demo mode. At some point DK jumps on a bunch of vines. On real hardware he grabs them and reaches the other side. On emulators/Mister he misses the vine and falls into the water below.

- The Knife Edge test is also very easy to do, just play the game and see how fast it runs. Every emulator and Mister (without a hack) will play it very fast, you can easily tell it's running at the wrong speed.

- I'm not sure how long you have to play Blues Brothers to reach the alligator boss and test if it's beatable. I assume more than 5 minutes.

Someone did test Knife Edge on Analogue and it seems to run at the correct speed (most of the time) but i'm not sure if it's accurate, i still think it gets some bursts of speed now and then. Still better than everything else though, assuming it doesn't use a hack like Mister.
