Analogue 3D gets delayed (shocker) and ModRetro teases a N64 FPGA console...within 24 hours of each other

No surprise but Analogue will not ship ANOTHER console on time...maintaining their track record sadly as a company that has yet to actually ship a product on time after taking pre-orders for it. But honestly at this point in time that should NOT come as a surprise to anyone! For all we know this won't even be the last delay or like Pocket depending on what MINUTE you ordered it day one it might ship six months after the first units go out

more surprisingly, ModRetro, the company that Palmer Luckey founded, teased a N64 FPGA console on their Twitter...which must just be salt in the wound for Analogue. So seems like there is some competition out there. Maybe one company will actually ship a product on time...who knows!

But wow suddenly is N64 in FPGA popular after the MiSTer FPGA core from FPGAZumSpass came out

They should follow Nintendo's lead and only announce a product when it's basically ready to ship. Expectation is the root of all heartache & disappointment.

I prefer the analogue
But the company sucks ass

Look at prices of the fpga snes and genesis.
Glad i got a MiSter FPGA.. and the analogue pocket.

Best combo imo.. i got the analogue 3D only because i have a shit ton of n64 games

theyre not Nintendo lol. They don't have the capital to develop and build these in mass quantities.
Never said they were Nintendo or that they should/could produce consoles in mass quantities, but they CAN hold off on announcing and giving a release date until they actually know they can deliver by said release date.

They've been doing this for 14 years now and have released 7 consoles up to this point, they're not a start-up. As far as capital goes, they're basically crowdsourcing by charging for pre-orders up front & well in advance. Announcing a product, collecting the money, and then delaying the product is no accident at this point, it's their business model/strategy.

even a delay is fine. It's the radio silence between "pre order is live" and "sorry delayed" and someone needs a PR person. It's like a four sentence paragraph that reads cold and uncaring

Of course, delays happen even with the big guys. It's just their M.O. at this point. Yeah, their PR is basically non-existent. I would have been gone years ago if their products weren't so damn good.

I pre-ordered Taki Udon's "PSX" MiSTer console instead. And he will have a handheld model as well.

Buying each individual console when it's all FPGA seems kind of silly. I do think Analogue's consoles look pretty spiffy though. And Analogue Pocket is pretty cool especially if "jailbroken".

Modretro should start by having stock of their game. I've been waiting months for all my games to arrive it's infuriating.

Otherwise, Modretro is awesome. The chromatic is much closer to the og hardware than the analogue pocket.

Following last week's sudden tariff changes, Analogue3D will now begin shipping next month. We're absorbing the costs—your preorder price stays the same. No additional charges.

Late August, the wait ends: reviews go live with everything we've been saving for this moment.

We've poured everything into Analogue3D—and we can't wait for you to see it for yourself.

As always, if you'd like to cancel your preorder at any time for a full refund, contact Analogue Support.

How is everyone feeling on the over under that it ships in the next 11-12 days, or are we going to get another delay.

I don't know why, but I'm pretty giddy about it. Looking forward to visiting some old classics.

They can take their time. I'm willing to wait a few more months if it means a better product. My old box of N64 games isn't going anywhere and I have plenty to do in the meantime.

Taki Udon's version
Wish I could stumble across one of these, been looking since they were first announced and have never once encountered them in stock

They simply can't deliver a perfect N64 in FPGA form. There are still unknown things about N64's timings and a bunch of games still have timing issues and bugs. The Mister FPGA isn't even as accurate as Ares or Gopher (they still use per game hacks and patches, which isn't the case with Ares), let alone a perfect N64 replica.

In every other market this wouldn't be a problem, most casual users wouldn't even notice most of these bugs, let alone care. A 90-95% accuracy would be more than enough for release. But the issue with FPGAs is that it's a niche market for enthusiasts. The yare more expensive because they supposed to be "perfect". And Analogue's whole marketing is based on the misinformed notion that FPGAs are more accurate than software emulators. They are the ones who started this narrative. So releasing a product that isn't even on par with a software emulator (which itself is still imperfect) will cause some backlash.

I canceled my first pre order because I found the thing expensive for so little games. BUT , but the modretro M64 has been announced, is cheaper and will probably be really good considering the Chromatic is awesome.

So..let's see how it goes

What was Analogue 3Ds delay timing with their other consoles? Just curious if im holding out a few more months or if its going to be 2027 before it ships

At this point they are eclipsing the Pocket delays. I would be surprised (that I am typing this) if they slip into 2026. If they are working on the last "1%" it reeks of some sort of legal chicanery they are trying to work around.

You referring to his mister pi or something else? I heard he was working on a handheld but have not seen that anywhere (officially) yet.
Yes, the Mister Pi. I check often, and I've literally never seen one in stock. They're always pre-orders for the next batch, and they're always sold out. Even minutes after they get announced for the next batch pre-sale, it's gone.

I think most of us want this to play actual physical carts & load ROMs via the jailbreak. Out side of that, yes…the MISTer is the way to go.
Multisystem folks are working on being able to take real media. And Supersystem will be able to take PSX disks with an addon.

They had the new PSX version available for pre-order for a long while. Ships in Q3/Q4.

Multisystem out of UK looks pretty good too.

Just out of curiosity...did you make that video today?

Cause DAMN you are fast to market with those if so.
Haha yes. From email to upload in 45 monutes

But I have a content library on the topic for stock footage to pick from and I have been a filmmaker for 20 years. So I can really cut, VO and export quickly if needed

What the world needs is an inexpensive online FGPA based SNES/NES/GBA/GBC/GB console with a game store and all of the extra 'expansion chips' built-in.
New unlicensed digital SNES games could all have the improved audio and other bonuses that the rare 'expansion chips' provide without any of the added costs.

After analogue releases a new Mega SG with 32x support and also the Analogue JAG.

I do like your idea especially if indies got behind it as a major release platform.
