"Homer the Great" is the best episode of the Simpsons ever.

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!
Who leaves Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs the cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscars night?
We do! We do!

Nonsense. My favorite Simpsons episode is easily better than your favorite Simpsons episode.

Ask yourselves: does *my* favourite Simpsons episode involve monkeys reenacting the Civil War? If it doesn't, how can it be the actual best episode?

Be honest with yourself. It just can't be. :|

That wasn't funny.

I like the episode with the jockeys. I think I'm the only one, but that shit cracked me up.

The early seasons of The Simpson are so good its hard to pick a favorite cause all of them are just so damn good. You think about one then another comes up.

you are so correct. I actually used that episode to write an essay on cultural resistance through popular culture.

To adopt a possibly tired GAF phrase, your favorite Simpsons episode SUCKS.
:D

But seriously I would have "Homer the Great" and "You Only Move Twice" fight to the death to determine which is the best episode.

Yeah, I watched the Stonecutters episode today too, and even though I've seen it a billion times, I was amazed at the fucking quality of the episode.

My favorite episode however will always be the one where they go to Australia.

I love how almost every time the Simpsons goes to another country, that country gets upset.

Australia, Japan, Brazil, each one complained about the episode.
When they visit Canada it's okay, though. We just like the attention.

My personal favorite is the one where Bart And Lisa play hockey if only for this scene alone:

"OK Pie, I'm going to bite the air like this; CHOMP CHOMP, and if you get in my way, it's your own fault."

At which point Homer bangs his head on the cupboard and eats the pie anyways.

One of my favorites was the monorail episode.

Marge: Homer, there's someone here to help you.
Homer: Is it Batman?
Marge: No, he's a scientist.
Homer: Batman's a scientist.
Marge: It's not Batman!

And I love the background music during this part:

Quimby: In a crisis I run this town.
Wiggum: Oh run along Quimby I think they're dedicating a phone booth somewhere.
Quimby: Watch it you talking tub of doughnut batter.
Wiggum: Hey I've got pictures of you.
Quimby: You don't scare me, that could be anyone's ass
Wiggum: I think that sash is cutting off the air to your brain..

I like the one where Milhouse peeks through his window and takes pictures of Lisa, then spreads them on the internet.

I like the "extended scenes" clip show that features Homer dealing James Bond jokers and "how to play" instruction cards in a game of poker, which in turn fucked up his game and got him killed. I like the music that plays when they gang up on Bond :lol

Well she was playing her saxaphone 1db above the legal limit early in the morning. WHAT ELSE WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO?

I like the episode where Homer enters a rehab then meets a fat guy in there who claimed to be Michael Jackson.

Guards : Lets put him in the room with the big white guy who thinks he's the little black guy

[I don't remember the whoile line anymore but i think it went something like that]

My favorite episode would have to be...

El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer (a.k.a. The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer)

This is the one with the Chili cookoff, where homer goes on the vision quest

Runners up:

Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment (The Prohibition episode)

You Only Move Twice (One where he tackles James bond)

There are just too many good ones from the old episodes to choose a favorite. Hell even the Homer as Big Foot is one that I love a great deal.

The older seasons didnt have any standout episodes as they were all consistantly great. Its impossible to pick one .

Aw, being a clown sucks. You get kicked by kids, bit by dogs, and admired by the elderly. Who am I clowning? I have no business being a clown! I've leaving the clowning business to all the other clowns in the clowning business.

My fav Homer bit ever. My dad uses the "leaving the clowning business to all the other clowns" line every now and then in normal conversation.

Typical of a Simpsons thread, every episode mentioned makes me go "no wait, that was easily one of the top 3 episodes". Except that jockey episode. WTF with someone picking that. :lol

The BEST episodes are in Season 4....n'yah!

Sad, considering the fact that the show's been on the air for, what, 13 seasons now?

The best line in the monorail episode is, "I call the big one 'Bitey'."

Who shot Mr Burns of course!

"Dozens of people are gunned down in Springfield everday, but until now none of them were important I'M KENT BROCKMAN!!"

"Mr Burns, you're okay! It was all a dream, you weren't shot."
"That's right Smithers. The year is 1975, and we're undercover detectives on the racecar circuit! Now lets BURN RUBBER BABY!!!"

<Bond> Joker? You're supposed to take these out of the deck!
<Homer> Oh, sorry, here's another card.
<Bond> "Rules and regulations for playing stud poker"? Homer, you idiot!
<Evil Guy> Ha ha ha, tough break Mr. Bond..
*thugs grab him*
<Bond> No! I don't lose! I never lose! It's Homer's fault! At least tell me your evil scheme for world domination.
<Evil Guy> Oh I'm not falling for that one again.

It's kind of creepy now to see the scene where Michael (aka Leon) comes into Bart's bedroom and sits down on the bed with him.

Oh, oh! I freaking LOVE the episode with Action News. One of my favourite sequences...

Announcer: It's "Channel Six Action News."
[several explosions are shown]
Bart: Ah, Action News. The last place an impressionable kid can go for TV violence.
Kent: [jumping in, panting] HELLO I'M KENT BROCKMAN! Our top stories tonight: a tremendous explosion... in the price of lumber, President Reagan dyes...his hair, plus Garry Trudeau and his new musical comedy revue. But first-- Let's check the death count from the killer storm bearing down on us like a shotgun full of snow.
Weatherman: Well, Kent, as of now the death count is... zero. But it is ready to shoot right up!
Kent: Oh my God. [shakes fist at heaven] Damn you snow!

One of my favorite Homer rants:

I can't live the button down life like you. I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue noses with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called city fathers who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about "what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?!"

The news bits are usually pretty good.

Brockman: Big game fever is reaching a fevered pitch as the fevered rivalry between Springfield U. and Springfield A&M spreads like wild-fever... This is writing?
Writer: I'm sorry, Uncle Kent. I lost my thesaurus.
Brockman: “My thesaurus”, you'll lose more than... In preparation for the big game, Springfield Stadium has caught additional-seating-capacity fever. Argh!
