And what if GTA VI ends up being disappointing?

I've said it in other threads over the years, and I'll say it again here.

Keep your bar low..(mines at my knee caps(. Anything above the low expectations is a winner. 😅

Disappoint in what respect?
Sales wise It's pretty much impossible.
Game wise...most gta are overrated already and i don't think it matters to the average gta player. They are just there to fuck shit up, especially online.

So yeah, It's not even an issue.

An enormous hype has been built around GTA VI. People expect it to be the biggest and best game of all time, one of the greatest entertainment products ever created. In a way, the entire industry might even depend on it.

But what happens if GTA VI doesn't live up to the expectations we've placed on it? How will the industry react to that?
Dude If you bought the game they don't give a shit about you. They already got your money.

I've came to terms that Starfield wasn't the be all end all of my hopes and dreams. :(
I can do the same with a GTA.
I haven't 😞

I enjoyed it for what it was and it's still among my top 10 most played games, but it had so much potential and it genuinely makes me sad thinking about it.

Still have some hope for the next DLC to turn some of it around. On a concept level it's still perfect. It just need enough handcrafted areas to make exploration worth your time. Maybe they can use AI idk, can't be impossible. And the space travels should be a bigger deal, force the player to chat with the crew and maybe repair the ship and deal with pirates boarding the ship when traveling to a new planet, after the first trip they can go back to fast travel.

Then we wait until 2039 for the next installment.

Then I'll play something else. I mean RDR2 was disappointing for me as well (and I dropped it after 10 hours or so of trying to like it) and I just played something else. R* are not the only developers who can make a good game. And GTA 5 wasn't exactly a barn burner either (imho). It's the first GTA game that I never had the desire to return to, but at least it was good enough to make me want to finish it. And GTA Online is fucking trash.

It's guaranteed. Too much hype so many will diss it. Huge games always have detractors no matter how good. But also, I think it will be feel too much like a life simulator and not enough like a game ass game so much of it will be warranted. Give me the right balance, please.

It started development during peak woke madness so im just worried what that could have done to it
It's going to poke mad fun at both woke and anti-woke culture you better believe.

Honestly though, I expect years of butthurt whinging a la No Man's Sky. But if Rockstar a smart (which they most certainly are given how much money they're making on GTAV Online - which they will not want to jeopardise), they will work tirelessly to fix it with incremental improvements, a la No Man's Sky (or CP2077).

the controls are so bad I dropped after 5 minutes.

As much as I'm looking forward to the game, there's a pretty good chance it won't be all that great. Many people disliked GTA 4. But the game is so big that it will still sell, even if it might fall short of expectations.

Oh we'll get plenty of hate from the PC and Nintendo only people. They'll probably dig up all the videos from their favorite "influencers" bashing it and post threads about it here.

The game will be amazing though as well as being a technical marvel that no other studio will be able to match. RDR2, a last gen game, still puts current gen games to shame.

Then people can move on to being excited about another game.

I'd say maybe a healthier way to have hype is wait for an upcoming game to actually show gameplay, because that's the silliest aspect of GTA6 so far. They've shown less than The Division 1 did to excite people about next-gen graphics, and that game nerfed them at launch.

Disappoint in what respect?
Sales wise It's pretty much impossible.

This is where I'll point out that GTA V Legacy has 2X CCUs on Steam right now compared to the Enhanced version. And you can't buy the Legacy version on Steam directly anymore. It's entirely possible that a lot of the MP playerbase stick with GTA V for a bunch of reasons.

There could be a chance GTA6 story falls flat, especially when comparison to RDR2 story and length will be done.

But for the GTAVI-Online content there is no way this will fail. They had no "special" plans for GTA5-Online and yet people ate it up, I just see no scenario where Rockstar fails where they are actually trying a fuck ton (only way to describe this given the magnitude) for the Online part.

It most likely will disappoint. The expectations around this game are that it's the second coming of Christ for video games. I think it's significant that the original talent behind previous games have left.

I'm buying TT2 stock as we speak purely for the insane GTA online explosion this game will cause

This game will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time in terms of money made I believe.

I'll dunk my balls into a mason jar filled with Tabasco sauce and hold them steady for 1 whole hour. j/k

If the game is disappointing then whatever, i'll just go play something else worth my time, not a big deal.

It won't matter. Surely GTA is all about online now. You just buying a large map for multiplayer. And maybe there won't be any future single player game, you'll just get new cities. That way they might be able to release content a little more frequently than once every twelve years

I play GTA games as sandbox games where i do whatever im in the mood for, with some scripted missions in between, that usually are funny and entertaining. So as long they give me a well done map, with alot of vehicle types to play around, im not gonna be dissapointed.

Probably why i had more fun playing GTA online solo in a private server, where i could build my empire, than following the story of 3 dudes in GTA5. I still had fun in the singleplayer campaign, but the sandbox elements is what keeps me playing in the end.

Well some people will discover the hard truth, that GTA isn't that godlike untouchable license, that its freeroaming sandbox open world was revolutionarry on PS2 but now it has become pretty boring because there's nothing new to do with it

Nothing, the world will move on. There's a jillion games to play that all demand insane amounts of your time today.

My expectations are very tempered anyway at this point, GTA plays a very different role than it did 20 years ago. It was a single player crime saga ripe with sharp social and political commentary. You couldn't even put half of what was in the PS2 trilogy in a game today.

Today? It's an MMO lite and insane cash cow for unlocking ridiculous vehicles and weapons. It's been in NPD/Circana top 10 for a decade, partially driven by being released on 3 console generations but the pull for multiplayer is insane.

The story doesn't matter, the gameplay ( in terms of shooting, mission structure, etc) doesn't matter. Those are not the things that made GTA special or unique.
GTA's brand is that it puts you in a virtual city, where you can interact with the world in ways that no game has ever done before, almost to the point where it feels like your character is in a real city.
So if GTA is to "living up to the hype", it has to advance in that aspect more than the previous games, walk into any random building and go inside, NPCs that remember you from previous interactions, etc. If it doesn't do that and is just another city with similar interactivity as GTAV, all they did was give your a new story with new missions, it's will be just meh, been there done that for a lot of people.

I'm not getting it since I don't have a console but even if I was it wouldn't be my most wanted game next year. I'm sure it's going to be great though whenever I do get to play it.

Guaranteed as soon as GTA 6 drops, there will be hordes of people coming out of the woodwork saying it's disappointing and didn't live up to expectations. It happens with all huge super hyped game. The bigger the game, the bigger the horde.
Imagine all the social media outrage/disappointment farming right after launch. All the fake drama and disingenuous takes just to produce attention.
