Anybody have a roadmap of Sprint releases this year. I have a Hero but am itching to know whats coming. I need a Snapdragon.
Weve just been hit up by a source close to HTC, and lets just say the Android invasion (of high quality Android devices, at least) has only just started. One of our connects let us know that while Google will be looking to sell an AT&T 3G-compatible Nexus One directly through their web store (just like we previously reported), the actual AT&T unit will be the HTC Desire. It will also apparently go to market on AT&T shelves as the HTC Desire as well. This will give AT&T users HTCs Sense UI, but weve been told the physical attributes of the unit might change from the HTC Desire that weve all seen. Nothing major, just possibly some material/finish/color changes to the casing. We have been told to expect the HTC Desire to land on AT&T in the May to June timeframe.
Now, on to our boys and girls at Sprint. We have been told Sprint will be continuing their HTC Android tradition with the HTC Hero2. That device, will indeed be the HTC Legend, except it will apparently be slightly modified. Just like Sprints original HTC Hero was. Our contact hasnt seen the device first hand so we cant be sure what kind of changes are in store, though if history is any indicator, we dont think a little more rounded and less edgy look would be outside the realm of possibility. We have no release timetable for the Sprint HTC Hero2 at this time.

Kinitari said:Yay, good news, getting a promotion at work. While I am trying to be frugal and save money for my eventual stint back into post secondary education this fall - I do want to give myself a present. Mind you I never buy myself more than a game every few months, so I am really due - I am thinking about either a Droid or a Nexus one. Except in Canada the Droid is called the "Milestone" and the Nexus One doesn't exist.
So the options are, going with a Milestone within the next few weeks, or waiting who knows how many months for the Nexus One to get here. Advice?
Quick bit to note - this will be my first cellphone... ever. Forget smart phone, this is completely new territory to me. Also, I have a few methods to get a greatly reduced monthly plan cost, so I could get a decent data+phone plan for 30-35 dollars (before hidden fees).
Any input anyone?

If the Android 2.1 update on the Hero improves performance as much as the leaked update did on the Eris (and it should, since they are nearly the same hardware), I think the Hero looks quite competitive with phones like the Droid or Nexus, despite having a slower processor. I'm sure that Sprint will get some sort of upgraded HTC phone this year - be it Supersonic, N1, Desire, Legend, or whatever, but nobody but the insiders really know which phone or when it is coming.
The phone industry is a lot like the computer hardware industry. There is always something new and improved coming out 6 months down the road, so if you are worried about having the latest and greatest phone, you will either never buy anything or buy so many new phones you go broke. The key is to just figure out the most important things you need from a new phone. If the Hero meets those needs, buy it. If it doesn't, then wait for something that does.

Kinitari said:Can someone tell me what sort of major differences I'd see between a Droid and a Hero?
Pimpwerx said:Thank god for the Supersonic, because if the Legend was all Sprint was getting from HTC, I would have to punch Sprint in the face. Nice case, shitty innards. I too wish for a 1GHz+ phone. Goddammit, at least let Google sell us the N1. Then we'll at least have an alternative. I'm running the one Modaco ROM on my rooted Hero, and it makes all those widgets actually work properly. My phone syncs everything properly like it should now. It's more responsive. I was hoping there was a 2.1 ROM out, but I guess there isn't. Still stuck on 1.5...ugh. PEACE.

Andrex said:Droid has a bigger screen (3.7" compared to 3.2"), and a high resolution to accompany it (854x480 compared to 480x320.) Droid has a better processor (same as in the iPhone 3GS), as well as the obvious difference of having a keyboard (despite them being similarly thin.) Droid has "stock" Android 2.0.1, while the Hero runs Android 1.5 with HTC Sense (both are promised to be upgraded to Android 2.1 eventually.) Droid has a better camera with dual-LED flash. I think that's everything.

Manmademan said:didn't we just get confirmation that there will be a 4g device out this year on sprint? That has to be the supersonic, right?
Pimpwerx said:Also, what's with the small-ass screen on the Legend? That thing is all bezel. It looks like it has space for a 3.7" screen. PEACE.
Kinitari said:Yeah but had I done that, I wouldn't have had Andrex talking to me, it was all a part of my plan.
Wait a few months and get the Nexus One on Sprint instead.DeadFalling said:Hmm... Would you suggest just biting on the Hero then? I don't want to wait 6 months+ on a new device.
Son of a.... :lol It's ok, we at least saw the Sprint icons in the leaked shot.tokkun said:No, a 4G device could be anything. Even the "It's probably an HTC" rumor doesn't mean it's the Supersonic. It could be this leaked HTC candybar handset:

Pimpwerx said:As for the Legend, I understand. But it's really not flattering to place it next to the Desire. Hell, the screen looks smaller than the one on the HD Mini. That's kinda...lame. I hate the size of the Hero screen when typing in portrait mode. PEACE.
Totakeke said:But but it has a unibody casing! And slot-loading battery compartment!
The Alex full color 3.5 touchscreen LCD screen is ideal for web browsing, while the 6 EPD screen displays like a printed page and text is adjustable for easy extended reading. Or view content on two screens simultaneously with Alexs dual screen Touch and Extend.

Hawkian said:The Alex looks too thin! That guy is holding it like he's afraid to snap it in half!
zesty said:My fiancee and I are going to be getting a family plan in the near future, most likely on Verizon. As a current iPhone user, I am not going to be able to handle switching to anything other than an Android device. Are people pretty happy with the Droid, or should I hold out for the Nexus One?
Andrex said:Hrm, Gizmodo said the Alex was tons more responsive than the Nook, too. Too bad the Adam has my interest instead...
Oh and apparently you can buy a Droid for $50 through Amazon.
Vyse The Legend said:Video of either the Verizon-bound HTC Incredible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN_AHjx2PBM&feature=player_embedded
There's some confusion over whether or not this phone is the Incredible or the Supersonic, but the shape of touch-sensitive buttons at the bottom suggest it is the HTC Incredible with a red-colored earphone:

XMonkey said:I'm guessing we won't hear anything about it on Verizon until that conference near the end of March, and then it should hopefully have an early April release.\
Andrex said:Why would you want Andrex to talk to you? He's a jerk. He never talks to me.![]()
DrFunk said:My guess:
- there will be a CDMA N1 for Sprint and Verizon
- the Incredible is for Verizon
- The Supersonic is for Sprint
- The Desire is for At&t
- There will be a WCDMA 850/1900 MHz N1
- phones are overlapping each other
Andrex said:Good bets. Seems everyone's getting something great, except for T-Mo*stabs Chojin*
